Add boullion to the water. Throw in some peas and whatever veggies you have. Crack an egg over it while it's still in the pan. Fake fried rice.

Put some olive oil, vegetable oil or butter in the pan, brown the rice (more like half golden, don't overdo), then add water (the amount that you are supposed to) and cook according to the direction. Long rice taste better, but any rice would do (except brown rice). You may add green onions, peas, shrimps or whatever you want in it , too. But plain is just fine as a side dish.

Scramble some eggs and chop some veggies and cook it in the rice (the veggies, not the eggs) Or you could add cheese and cream of chicken soup to the rice. A little salt and butter goes a long way too!

When you add the water to boil the rice, use 2/3 chicken broth,
& 1/3 water. I also like to buy some Brautwurst sausages and cut them open. Brown the meat in a pan and add it to your rice when you are done.

Cook the rice with half a glass of milk and garnish it with coriander leaves or parsley.
If you do not like milk in the rice, you can squeeze a bit of lemon juice in the water and dissolve a tsp of sugar in it and cook the rice in it.
A bit of saffron added to the water gives it a lovely aroma and taste BUT its a bit expensive.
Cumin seeds crackled in a bit of oil along with pepper corns and added to the water in which you cook rice is also very flavorsome.
You could always add green peas to the rice along with cinnamon sticks and cook it .

Throw in some raisins while it's cooking, or almonds, cloves (small amount), cardamom seeds, etc...
Another thing you can do is buy good quality rice. Go to your local asian store and get some sticky rice, you will be amazed at how crappy "american" rice tastes after trying the good stuff.

Prior to putting the water in your sauce pan, pour a teaspoon of olive oil into the pan and add some chopped onions and minced garlic. Cook these on medium heat for a few minutes, but don't allow them to burn. Add your water and rice and cook as you normally would. You'll end up with rice with a mild garlic and onion flavor. It also makes the kitchen smell great.

Add a can of tomato sauce (or chopped tomatoes, or Ro-Tel tomatoes) and 1/2 the amount of water, cilantro and ground black pepper. Easy Spanish rice.

Add some chicken broth to it while cooking. Throw in some finely chopped veggies too! If you've got it on hand, some saffron is wonderful! Good Luck!
