i think i may have broken or sprianed my pinky finger how can i tell?

Broken- chances are you will have inbearable pain and swelling ...
Sprain is milder ...
If the pain doesnt lower then XRAY might be needed
Finger bones are brittle so chances of hairline fracture is high

If it is a hairline fracture, you can't, but in the case of more serious fractures, you can actually feel the break. In any case, if you want to be sure, get it x-rayed.

The Dr. will tell you one way or the or the other.
If it causes great pain to flex your finger, it might be broken
