I saw an article in Psychology today written by a psycholigist who said that most prescription medication for these "chemical imbalance" disorders treated the symptoms instead of the source of the problems. This medication is apparently given so that other people can tolerate the people with the affliction. She said that there are 3 items you can take daily without side effects that will prevent panic attacks completely.
SAMe
5-HTP
L-Tyrosine
They are available at most vitamin stores. I have taken them for the last 5 years and have not had a panic attack since then.

I am a 34 year old female who also suffers from anxiety, i freak out each time i get around more than 2 or 3 people, i can't even go to the grocery store without freaking out. the doctor put me on kalonapin (sp) to take when i know that i am going to have to be around people, it helps and she also put me on welbutrin, this does not seem to help though, so bottom line go to the doctor and tell them your problem and i am sure that they will take care of u, and please don't think that you are alone out there cause there are more people than you might even dream that has the same problem as you.

You may need to go to a doc and get a prescription-I have had anxiety disorder my whole life and I am 46-started having them in elementary school at 8. Xanax helps me too-even at a low dose like .25. Even knowing I have the pills in my purse makes me feel better. It depends on the situation. I can go into crowds now and ball games and things like that. AND please don't feel like you are the only one. There are millions of people that have some form of this. I still avoid malls though-but I hate to shop anyway. Good luck!!! You will be fine.

My belief is with any anxiety disorder, is any of your 5 senses, sight, sound, smell, taste , touch, pick up something around you within the environment that you are presently in, this triggers, a forgotten memory, resulting in feeling of anxiety, such as , maybe feeling dizzy, light headed, fear, nervous, out of breath, sick to the stomach, feeling like you can not move, or a desire to just want to run away from where you are at. Basically it come down to fear, to battle these anxiety, you may have to try to recall the memory that cause these feeling to trigger, or you may have to practice battling these fears by continuing to put your self in to the situation for a small lengh of time, and each time increase the time factor to over come the fears.

not formally, but i think i have some kind of social phobia. i went to a therapist for a while and she didn't help at all. she kept telling me it was all part of stress i was going through from a bunch of change in my life. but, i had the problem long before all the "change".

Reading this book and doing what it says to do WILL CURE you. I promise....

Not only will it cure you, it will make life a whole lot more enjoyable and make difficult situations easier to manage. You've got nothing to lose but a silly little fear that's hiding in your subconscious.

Oh, and don't listen to the drug addicts above. Drugs only mask the symptoms and don't get to the actual problem.

Paxil helped me over come mine. I would have panic attacks if I was without my husband in a large crowd. Once I started Paxil I could actully go shopping by myself.

Talking with a psychologist. More insurance will cover appointments, you just pay your regular copay. Good luck.
