the harder you swing the more you spin the ball - you also need a descending blow to help create spin but you must swing hard - top spin really means a draw because the ball turns over when you draw it and it spins backwards when you fade - to draw the ball, play the ball a hair back in your stance and use a neutral grip on a closed face or a strong grip on a neutral face and close your stance - you will swing along your foot line and attack the ball from the inside which will impart right to left spin on the ball which will allow it to turn over or spin forward - takes practice, good luck

Swing the club through the ball on a descending path to impart back spin.
Swing the putter through the ball so that it is just beginning to ascend when it strikes the ball to impart forward spin and get the ball rolling. Putting is the only time you would want to put front spin on the ball.

Front Spin = Place your ball 1-2 inch backward = Punching or bump and run.

You don't want to put front spin on the ball. If you do you're striking the ball wrong. With the loft that is built in to the golf club if the ball is struck properly you can't help but put backspin on the ball.

Spin is created by the impact and direction of the club face on the ball. Back spin = hitting down on the back (club side) of the ball. Top spin = hitting the top portion (skulling the ball). Not easy to explain, demonstration is preferred.
