I think that the expectations are so high. I think that mothers and daughters can be overly critical of themselves and then it reflects onto the other really easily. I have an intense on again off again relationship with my mom. I just cherish the on times...

They dont have to be hard, Remember that communication and respect are two-way streets. Of course it can be difficult but by the time the teenage years are over they will see why you said and did the things they 'hated' you for when they were younger and you can both laugh at the silliness of it all. I am blessed to have a wonderful daughter who now sees me as not just Mom, but as one of her biggest allies and best friend. But it wasnt always that way.

Moms too often think they can live their daughters' life for them and so try to help them avoid the mistakes they made when they were young. I think some mistakes must be made by everyone and having someone in your box the whole time is just a little too frustrating to handle..

they're really not that hard. everything that may go wrong in a mother-daughter relationship is usually something so immature that it's just plain stupid. me and my mother have a great relationship. mom's try their best and never give anything less than superb

Same gender relationships are always hard. Take Father - Son relationships for instance.

Believe me its not as hard as a father son relationship , and that too isn't hard if the parents get down to their kids level.

I don't think that they are any rougher than the father-son relationships. Kids up to their late teens, thinks they know it all, and how to do everything. This is what makes things rough for parents/guardians. Kids just have to learn by trial and error sometimes, because they don't listen to sound advice.

not all are ...i have a great relationship with my mom and my daughters!....but some have problems because the mom often sees too much of herself in her child and therefore knows what they get up to!

They are aren't they. But they aren't always. My daughter & mine was during here teenage years....downright scary even at times. But now she married & has kids & we are the best of friends.
Hang in there, things usually do get better!
