What is the alternative? You must have talent... and there must be another reason than 60hours a week. Don't believe for an instant that the business world is 'easier' or less hours. Look at the professionals on the street with their blackberry, their palm, their cell phone ALL THE TIME. No escape. (trust me on this one)
If you're not a chef, then what is the future? I would say stay in, and then try it for a while (a couple of years). If it's not right, then you can evolve to something else.
good luck
hey, you might get your own TV show.

Of course, it would be easier to just quit and give up and say "this is too hard, let me find something thats easier" and if thats what you want to do, then you shouldn't even think twice about everyone else telling you to stay. But if you were sure, I don't think that you would be posting this question.
CLearly you went to cooking school bc you had some interest in becoming a chef, but the hours are scaring you into thinking that this is not what you want to do anymore, but you can't let something like that hinder your education. You have to start somewhere and as a sous chef, I doubt you'll be working that much, and by time you do become a head chef, you just might love it so much that you'll end up working 80 hrs a week! Not bc you have to, but bc you want to.
If this is something that you really feel like you don't want to do anymore and your just gonna be wasting someone's time and money, than move on...but if there is still some interest in pursuing a cooking career, don't let the little things trip you up...just go for it and don't look back...

You should have looked into what it took to be a chef. Like how many hours, amount it paid per hour and all the other benefits+non-benefits. It depends on how far you are from graduating! Its all up to you but you have to enjoy your job.If you do decide to quite chef collage then before you decide on another route think of how many hours you want to work, how much money you want to make $20,000.00 over a 100,000.00+ a year and do you want to work for someone or do you want to own your own business. Go to the Library and get a book on jobs and how much they pay, look for a book like one called "Occupational Outlook Handbook 2002-2003". Ask a librarian if they have this book or something like it. Learn as much information as you can about a career before you waste time and money. Jobs you may want to consider are being a manager of a restaurant, health food inspector. If you decide that you do not want to be in the food business then look into becoming a Corporate pilot, commercial pilot, or even a Rail road engineer. Good Luck an I hope you will find a job that will make you happy.

You should stay and pull through. But there's different kind of chefs, like a pastry chef, that doesn't work those kind of hours. If you wanted to drop out, you shouldn't have decided to go to culinary school in the first place. Do you think that Emeril or Bobby Flay quit? Nope! They hung in there and so should you.
