I have a 4 year old daughter and she has just had her pre school booster jabs and I received a leaflet about vaccines that are given as she gets older, there was another set of booster injections around 13 - 15 year old but no sign of the TB vaccine? Is this still given and if not why not:?

No. Only those children at risk i.e those with a parent or grandparent withTB or those living in a high incidence area.
The policy changed last year, as TB is so rare now.
I reckon its to save money though!http://www.dh.gov.uk/assetRoot/04/11/81/35/04118135.pdf

hi - I am 22 almost 23 and was supposed to have TB at school year 9 - although I was away from school ill, so they advised me to have it when the next year of students have theirs. This didnt happen as I was never told when the next lot of students were having theirs, so missed out again. Basically I recently had to go get some injections before I travel to costa rica - and it seems that no clinics/travl clinics/hospitals anywhere provides this anymore. I dont think it is needed any longer!

They still get it, provided they need it. In NI it is given in P6 or P7 - the final years of primary school.

Not everyone gets it, which is probably why its not on the list. They will all get a 'six needles' injection, and the result of that will determine whether they need the BCG booster. I didnt need mine :)

May be it will be necessary NOW U know now there are reports that TB is making a comeback and some of the strains are resistant to all the drugs in the market But if u r not from a high prevalence area then u may not need It

i am a school nurse , they have stopped giving teenagers the bcg vaccine as they say it is not cost effective, enquire with your gp when the times comes, and you never know they may change their minds again when the instances of tb go up again as no doubt they will.

if the person already had a reaction to the BCG vaccination, no further booster doses are necessary

BCG vaccine is not given since 1978-79 when it was eradicated(I dont remember which year)
They destroyed alll the batches after that so that illicit use be not done
