The pope shouldn't have said thoses remarks he should have known it would have offened muslims but at the same time muslims(not all) shouldn't be going around burning churches and killing nuns.there is fault on both sides here.

I dont think what the pope said was so terrible considering he was paraphrasing from someone else and he apologised for causing offense. The fact is that these muslims have reacted with violence and show no remorse, they are going the wrong way about it if they want to be taken seriously.

Propaganda and it sure is doing it's job. Very few Muslims would have known about what the pope said if they hadn't been lectured about it during prair last friday. The leaders of the mosks have deliberately insighted this protest as another way of keeping Islam in the public media. His comments were taken out of text as most of what they tell their members is. I agree the Pope could have used a better reference even if what he said is the truth. Muslims constantly make very derogatory remarks about other religions. There is a war in progress between the Muslims and the rest of the people of the world. Not only a violent killing war but also a war of words as well. The muslims are killing hundreds of thousands of Muslims in Africa. They do not seem to think black Muslims are humans so kill them. The two main factions of the Muslim comunity are constantly fighting and killing each other as well. If a christian or christian nation does anything that could possibly be used in their propaganda war it sure will be. If the Muslims are as peace loving as they say they are then the leaders of their religion would have been the ones to issue a writen protest asking for dialog to clear this miss understanding. That is what nearly all christian organizations would have done if it had been the other way round. there is a lot of hate of Muslims and there will be more because they are the ones causing it. They want the hate so they can justify killing you and me. I am not a believer in any religion and could never be. When people finally understand what religion is then it may be possible to have some peace among all. Religions and I do mean all of them are creations of man to conterol man. That is exactly how all tis got started. People convincing others of a belief and then using it to control the masses. Yes the catholic church has done this for a long time and still is. There are so many so called religions all with some what different beliefs that anyone can do anything he wants and find a religion that would condone his acts. I know I am going to anger many with what I have said. This is how I see things and if there is any proof of it being anything else I sure would be glad to take a look at it. Yes i have read the bible and not just one version either. I do have three translations of the koran and have read them as well. The more I read of such things the more I am convinced that what I have said it true.

Yes, there is fault on both sides. Especially since the Christians did more converting by the sword than Muslims throughout their history. Look at the Crusaders, who murdered 1/3 of the Jews of Europe before going on to invade the Muslim world. Look at the Inquisition, which tortured Jews, Muslims, witches, and other non-Christians and burned "heretics" at the stake. Look at the Expulsion of Jews and Muslims from Spain by Ferdinand and Isabella (whose personal father confessor was Torquemada), giving them 3 choices: conversion, expulsion, or death. So quoting an anti-Muslim scholar from the Middle Ages is pretty hypocritical.

The Muslims, on the other hand, are not helping their cause by all these riots. First the Cartoon Wars, now the Pope Wars... the Muslim world needs to learn how to deal with things non-violently -- as should we all. Acting out this way only re-enforces the stereotype of Islam as a religion of violence. If Islam is truly a religion of peace, then demonstrate that!

i honestly think that the pope did nothing wrong. he simply used a quotation from a 14th Century Bizantine Emperor to make a point against violence... It would be like using a quote from Hitler against Jews to make a point that war and racial hatred is wrong. the quote may be harsh, but you cannot fault the speaker and say that he believes the same thing Hitler does. to call him an anti-semite would be ridiculous. its the context that is most important. I bet the Muslims burning down churches and killing nuns did not read the transcript of the pope's speech in its entirity. in fact i guarentee it. i was watching a news story and a woman was screaming into the camera, "I am mad because the Pope said was Mohammad a terrorist and that he used a sword. For this he should be punished." Having read the Pope's speech myself, i assure you that is not what he said. Sure i would be mad if a religious leader said Jesus was a terrorist and that he used swords. but before i start throwing my fists in the air and fire bombing places of worship in revenge (which by the way is not the way God wants us to behave) i would read the transcript of the speech and judge for myself. that is what an intelligent person would do. i sure as hell wouldn't believe the first thing i hear from a screaming lunatic on a street corner.

yes i agree, one spoke with ignorance while the other over reacted with ignorance.
for a person of Pope's caliber, he holds far more responsibilities. he should try bringing communities closer , rather this Pope seems to be driving communities further apart. to quote someone using as an excuse was something wrong. there were many qoutes but instead he chose to quote a man who killed many people himself. shows the Ignorance, doesnt it?.

the Pope could have qouted what people like --
Thomas Carlyle in 'Heroes and Hero Worship and the Heroic in History,' 1840
Mahatma Gandhi, a statement published in 'Young India,'1924.
Dr. William Draper in 'History of Intellectual Development of Europe
W. Montgomery Watt in 'Muhammad(saaw) at Mecca,' Oxford, 1953.
K. S. Ramakrishna Rao in 'Muhammad(saaw): The Prophet of Islam,' 1989
Jules Masserman in 'Who Were Histories Great Leaders?' in TIME Magazine, July 15, 1974
Gibbon in 'The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire' 1823

i am a muslimah too, but i feel that only if we practised our religion the way we should -- as Allah and His Messenger/s have taught us then we wont have any problems. if we excel our selves in helping others via Patience, endurance, forgiveness and Zakah -- then will other people know what Islam is all about. and the most important thing -- muslims world-wide should stop creating false hadiths and Bi'dah (Innovation of new traditions, rules and man-made laws).

The Pope is suppose to be educated, living well without hunger and no job, has many advisers, and is suppose to be the leader of the Catholic Church.

The Muslims who are being fanatical are poor, uneducated, often hungry, and frustrated people.

True, this is no excuse, but it is understandable, such frustration can cause many-and often bad-reactions.

The Pope? He was just downright stupid to say what he said. It does show his true feelings, tho.

i am muslim, and yes i do agree.

but you mention the word Pope (one person) and muslims (the whole muslims). who told you that muslims go around burning churches and killing nuns. this is a human behavior not religious behavior. and its done by radical. and i am against such a behavior.

there is something called Human behavior, cultural behavior, unemployment and poor, life under war, feeling no hope, feeling of injustice. but if you come to Islam, Islam asked muslims to forgive other people mistake.

Quran 23:96
[96] Repel evil with that which is better. We are Best-Acquainted with the things they utter.

The Pope was right to point out that the prophet Mohammed commanded muslims to spread Islam "By the sword" i.e through violence. The Pope says that is a bad thing and all decent people agree with the Pope on that.

I am against violence whatever the reason, and the pope was a brave man when he apologized for his words.
As a Muslim, I apologize too for the nune's murder as there is no killing in Islam, it is a fact.
