Because cucumbers are 89% water, use butter and not margarine, the butter will stop the water getting to into the bread, and go right to te edges with it. It will only stop it for a time!!

When you cut cucumbers, they start to lose the water they have in them (and they have a lot of water). To keep them from going soggy, spread the bread with a THIN layer of butter, top with cucumber slices, and eat immediately. If you make them up in advance, the longer they sit, the more water will seep out of the cucumber, and the soggier your bread will be.

Maybe it is how you make the sandwiches. try the recipe below.

1 package (3 ounces) cream cheese, softened
1/2 teaspoon of garlic salt
1/2 teaspoon of dill weed
1 teaspoon chopped chives
8 slices of white bread
1 seedless cucumber

Combine the cream cheese, garlic salt, chives and dill in a bowl. Mix well. Cover and chill 1 hour.
Cut the cucumber into rounds. Set aside.
Using a biscuit cutter or the top of a glass, cut the middle out of each slice of bread. Top each slice with some of the cream cheese mixture, then a slice of cucumber. Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.

cucumber tends to loose water once it is chopped

when you place sliced cucumber on bread, the cucumber looses water and the bread absorbs it so it becomes soggy

you cannot really prevent it so try to keep the bread away from the cucumber:

use cheddar cheese / butter / peanut butter as a base on the bread first

however, it wont stay dry for too long the water will finally get there !
good luck ! :)

65% of a cucumber is water. If you make a sandwich in the morning you'll have a soggy one by lunch. If you put your cucumber in a separate container or wrap with plastic it will stay fresh and your sarnie will be lovely

If you add salt to the cucumber slices (which have a high water content), it will extract water from the slices. The extracted water will cause your bread to go soggy. If you add salt, perhaps add it right before you are ready to eat.

because cucumber is 90% water.

the only way to prevent is to add the cucumber just before you eat the sandwich!

I think youre stumped for preventing it, unless you eat them right away. Cucumbers are like 90-95% water, and bread being dry soaks it up like a thirsty camel

It's the moisture in the cucumber. Put lots of butter and eat them fairly soon after making them
