Yes you can install a nanny cam, you may just want to check the laws in your state though to see if you need to tell your nanny she is on video or not. I don't blame you at all, you never know what goes on when you are not at home. I would do it at least for piece of mind, if anything else.

You could most likly find out about your local laws by giving a quick call to the police/sheriff department. They should be able to answer you, and if not right away they are probably willing to get back to you on it. If they are for some reason of no help, call DHHS or whatever family services your area provides.

If you get the go ahead on the legallity of things, then go for it. It is your house and your baby so there is no reason why you should not be able to monitor what is going on while you are away. You don't need to feel bad for this, or feel like you are untrusting, because this is your child and it doesn't matter as long as they are with someone that is safe.

Good luck and I hope that your baby is being well taken care of.

I am a mother and I also have been a Nanny for 12 years. I started taking care of the children when they were 5 and 3. I have always been good to the kids and their parents have nothing to worry about.
However, I have two of my own and they go everywhere w/ me. They have never had a babysitter and I'm not sure I'm ready for someone else to care for my children.
If you employ someone to care for your child make sure you really trust them. Do a back ground check and check references. Do not hire someone you don't trust. If you feel you need a Nanny cam you don't trust this person.
As a parent you must do WHATEVER it is to keep your child
safe.

You may be required to put something in a visible area, such as a window, to the effect of "Smile! You're on camera!", you may need a consent waiver, there's any number of things which you may need to do, and every situation is different.

Check into local laws, because if you don't follow them to the letter and then find out she's hurting your child, the evidence won't be admissible in court.

I would. You never know unless you watch what is really going on while you are gone. Do it for a few weeks, then you can get rid of the camera once you're confident she is loving and attentive
