Create a new partition on your machine running windows. You can use any free partition software available on web. Then boot ur pc from the linux CD and choose the partition to which u want linux to install to.

Install mandrake linux . it is easy to install and use. u can keep both xp and linux on the same disk. when you will run the mandrake disc , it will guide u through the rest of the process.

Depending on your Linux, read its' native "howto". Every Linux has deteiled description for such case. Howtos must be at their site among other docs.
