Why does your bath towel eventually get dirty, even when you use it to wipe yourself after your bath when you're clean?

We are after made of 7 layers of skin. You may be washing 1 layer of dead skin off, but another layer may be ready to fall off, and with the help of the towel it does so, and hence it gets dirty over time.

The problem comes from thinking you are "clean" after a bath. First of all if it's a bath and not a shower, you're basically sitting in dirty water. Even if it's a shower, our bodies are never truly clean, you may wash off the dirt and most of the oils, but our bodies are constantly exuding dirt and oils. The best we can hope for is to appear and smell clean. The skin is the largest organ of the body. It's a living thing, constantly growing and renewing itself.

We think of clean as being without dirt, but actually everything has dirt and germs, in food-service clean means sanitary, not sterile. Clean rooms are not perfectly clean, they're just less dirty than other rooms. The bath towel that you think of as clean is actually dirty before you even pick it up and after toweling dry, there's probably enough skin cells, DNA, bacteria and moisture to make a clone of you.

hey your observation is really nice. (i too have observed this. but i can suggest you one more thing. Pls try this and find out for yourself.) Wash your towels neatly. The next day use shampoo or some other cleansing agent to wash your hair and then wipe yourselves with the washed, dry towel. On the first day u wont notice any thing. But from the second day onwards u will see dirt picking up. This must be due to the moisture left on the towel the previous day and the accumulation of dirt on your hair. (this dust does not get wiped away during normal bathing without any cleansing agents. Hope this clarifies your doubt.

Who's to say you're totally clean? Hey some people forget to wash behind their ears! (lol) I'd have to say because slowly you're still wiping or rubbing off dead skins cells as you dry off. And as that adds up....it deteriorates...and viola! Yuckiness! (lol) *scientifically speaking of course* *WINK*
