Since my family and I don't believe in violence and are sworn not to do any harm to any living thing, does that protect my son from being drafted due to religious beliefs?

No. There are plenty of non violent jobs in the military. Your son can go into a medical field or even the Ministry field where he would actually be helping people.

Bound's hubby here:

When there is a draft in force, his exemption status based on religious belief will depend upon how the law is written.

The Selective Service Act that was law during Vietnam, allowed a religious exemption. Under Section 6J, a long standing member of an established religious faith could be exempt from military service. The final decision rested with the draft board.

What country are you in? There is no free country, that I'm aware of, that has a draft, except Isreal. There are countries that have a mandatory military obligation, but that can be done by doing a communty service.

Anyway, to answer your question, IF there was a draft, the NO. The religious beliefs would be taken into consideration and he would be put into a position where he wouldn't have to kill.

There is a draft? Do you realize that at this present moment, the us military is being downsized? The Air Force alone is cutting 40,000 people over the next 5 years.
A society where people are not willing to fight for their way of life is doomed. Just be thankful that there are people in America willing to do what is necessary so that you and your son can do nothing.

Maybe so. Check this out

Are you organized Buddhists or free lance? If you belong to a temple or something you may have someone who is getting together to help young men of or near draft age to make a case for alternative service or whatever. Are there any Quakers or Mennonites near you? They don't serve and they are usually willing to help others.
Note well ;" In general, the man's lifestyle prior to making his claim must reflect his current claims." That is your son better be
walking the walk now before the time comes to make the claim. Any volunteer work he can do? With the very old? Offer to rock crack babies at the hospital nursery? Just a thought.

I don't think so. As stated above, there are lots of non-combat duty positions in the military. However, if the worst happens, where there was a draft & he was sent into active duty status, he could claim "Conscientious Objector" status, which means he would serve with everyone else, but not handle any weapons, thus not having the ability to harm anybody [if I understand it correctly.]

If a draft is began, that's going to be so a techniques interior the destiny he will probable be over the age cut back. people look to misconceive the entire theory of probable reinstituting conscription. we are able to (and would, IMHO) critically boost the dimensions of the militia and not making use of a draft, and that's what would be sensible for any form conflict we would desire to get into every time quickly. a militia of conscripts does no longer be the thank you to boost the dimensions of the army we've; it would be the thank you to receive a thoroughly distinctive form of military that would desire to be sensible in a theoretical land conflict against, say, India, yet would be no sturdy against any opponent we've any actual probability of combating. the well-known infantry soldier is quite lots a professional and actual can no longer get replaced by making use of a draftee.

If there were a draft, no it would not protect him. You could although move to Tibet, denounce your citizenship, feel the effects of Chinese oppression, and even perhaps someday understand that when you live in a country and enjoy the freedoms that country provides someone should feel the need or obligation to stand up to protect them.
