I think it would make more sense to keep kids away from the iron in the first place, but it's an interesting idea. It would have to be fire and heat resistant though other wise there would be a large number of iron fire related accidents!

what you can do is put the iron and the ironing board in another room out of reach, alot of nasty accidents happen each day to babies because the parent is careless...theres a high precentage of iron related accidents in this country, not just burns, i mean an iron falling from the board onto the baby...them things weigh a ton, so move the ironing board to the bedroom or another room that the baby does not go in

Surely you just take more care and not allow your children to reach up for the iron? Besides the ironing board should be set higher so they cannot reach and most irons now come with a clip on the flex to clip to the ironing board so that it cannot fall if pulled. Hope this helps!

My mother-in-law used to iron inside a baby play pen with the kids outside it, so the kids (she had 4 in 5 years) couldn't get to the iron at all. She would just push the pen up to the wall with the powerpoint on it so they couldn't reach any of the cord, the board or the iron.
Hope this helps

Wouldn't it be a better idea to do ironing when the children are having their naps or are gated from the area where ironing is being done, OR better yet, for a person to be vigilant about where that child is and keep the cord out of reach?

it would be a good idea but any responsible parent would not let their child near the iron in the first place my iron is always out of sight and reach and the only time i iron is when she is in bed then there is no chance of an accident!

make sure the plug points in your house are not too low. unplug the iron as soon as you are finnished using it and remove it from the ironing board. its possibly that a toddler could pull on the cord while the iron is unplugged, or shake the ironing board and injure himself. Rather leave the iron in a cupboard when not in use, also use special covers that you can purchase at a hardware store for plug points.

I get your point but I don't think they would sell - most parents would rather just keep their children away from the ironing board in the first place and buy a cordless iron to be doubly sure.

The child shouldn't be anywhere near the iron in the first place! Whether there is a cover or not! The child could easily pull the cord and it can burn them. MAKE SURE CHILDREN ARE KEPT AWAY FROM DANGEROUS THINGS!!!!

A good idea is to not leave the iron on and then walk away.
