How can I take care of myself?

* Follow the full treatment prescribed by your health care provider. Keep your follow-up appointments.
* Do not smoke cigarettes.
* Ask your provider if you should avoid drugs that irritate the stomach, such as aspirin, ***ibuprofen***, and naproxen. If your provider says it is OK to take these drugs, try taking them with food to prevent stomach irritation. Ask your provider if you can use acetaminophen instead.
* You may want to make other lifestyle changes, such as:
o Eating healthy meals. Several small meals may be better than 2 or 3 large ones. Follow the diet prescribed by your health care provider.
o Avoiding coffee, including caffeinated and decaf coffee, colas, and any other food or drink that may bother your stomach, such as alcohol.
o Getting plenty of rest and sleep.
o Exercising as recommended by your provider.
* If you keep having symptoms or your symptoms get worse, tell your provider.

Ibuprofen and other drugs of the NSAID class can cause gastric irritation and bleeding. You should try acetaminophen instead. Take DGL tablets for the ulcers (Deglycerinnated Licorice). If I knew what you were taking ib-brufen for I could give you some recommendations for alternative stomach friendly meds. Good luck!

A person who as stomach ulcers, even one ulcer, should not take ibuprofen or any other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS). They are a major risk for causing gastrointestinal problems and with active ulcers you can do major damage taking them.

Because you have active ulcers, ask your doctor for an alternative medication.

I wouldn't you might cause more problems. Go to Whole Foods and get Aloe Vera Juice. Mix it with your favorite fruit juice and it should help with the burning and healing. It tastes like crap but believe me it will help with the pain. I like to mix it with Crystal Light Grapefruit flavored drink. It really cuts the taste of the Aloe Vera.

No; ibuprofen can cause stomach upset. If you need a painkiller, take Tylenol, which does not irritate the stomach.
