I would be more open, everyone has a list of what they want there special person to be, that they miss opportunities with great people because they do not give everyone a chance to see if they are the one.
For example, if you wanted a guy that was funny, and you meet a guy that seems to be serious, you will probably blow them off, but maybe that person needs someone to make their world happier and to lift his spirits, in other words he may be the funny man you were looking for.
