From any woman of the same age that perhaps also has 2 young children, 10 & 5, as to how to cope with the illness & not get angry at the kids. She is just about to start her chemo therapy & she is scared. Please help us if you can. It would be good if you also lived in Auckland.

I was diagnosed on 7th March 2006 with breast cancer. I had a mastectomy on 14th April 2006 followed by chemo and radiotherapy. OK I am a little older than your daughter at 48 but i have a child - incidentally, she was the last one i told.

How to cope with the illness: be positive, aim for something you have always wanted and the cancer becomes a minor irritation.

Chemo: no two ways about it. It is awful. Some cope better than others. I should have had 6 rounds but could only cope with three. Each dose is the same, but as your body's defences are hit, each dose affects you differently. The more stressed you are, the worse the effects. Depending on the mix of drugs, she may lose her hair. So what. Wigs/bandannas are fine. Count down not up. As in "only 5 more, only 4 more, only three more" and soon it will be over. Drink plenty of water to dilute the amount going through the kidneys at one time. Suck a sweet when the one that makes you taste metal is introduced.

Yes it is scary, but if you are scared, you are alive! Get the kids involved with the treatment. Passing pills (under supervision) helping with stuff.

I found that after the first shock, people made more of it than i did. It will get boring, trust me.

Radiotherapy - A doddle. Sunburn in a concentrated area.

I wish your daughter and your family all the best. Don't give up.

I am very sorry. Chemo is narly stuff, and can make one sick. I would recommend eating a high protein meal before going for a chemo treatment. - There is a medication called compazine. (Spelling may be wrong). But, it takes away the feeling of wanting to vomit, and you sleep well. - There are two forms, pill form and rectal. The rectal suppositories work the best. It enters the system more quickly. There are other drugs which are cannibis based. (spelling may be wrong). As far as anger goes, there are support groups and couseling for the patient. Anger is normal as well as depression. - She needs very positive people who will tell her she can beat this. I don't know what stage she is, but I have a friend who had a stage 4 breast cancer and it spred to her lymph nodes. She went through treatment, and is now in remission. - You must be very positive with your daughter. When on chemo, be careful when using other drugs or natural remedies. First ask the doctor. There are breast cancer drugs that are breast cancer specific. Also, find out her cell type and do alot of research to help you both understand the disease, and you will feel more hopeful when you have more knowledge . Contact the cancer society, etc, and get as much info as possible. - Your daughter needs to do creative visualization, and believe she can beat her disease. I wish you and you daughter luck. Also, take care of yourself. Taking care of cancer patients can make you very tired, so get help, and please ask the Oncologist if he can connect you w/ support groups for counsel. A nice wig will make her feel better. Google wigs to order, or find a local wig store.

The harbour-side city of Auckland is New Zealand's correct metropolis and the lively economic heart of the nation, know it with hotelbye . Auckland is also called the "City of Sails" and it sprawls out in helter-skelter fashion between Manukau Harbour (to the west) and Waitemata Harbour (to the east) with the lightweight main city district correct near the waterway. For some readers to New Zealand, Auckland is the point of birth, and a couple of days soaking up the ethnic and outdoor attractions here ought to be on every tourist's to-do list. The monuments, museums, and artwork galleries here are a few of the finest in the country. The suburban coastline of the town is speckled with great beaches, and the islands of the Hauraki Gulf provide a style of New Zealand's magnificent national park landscape close to the city's doorstep. Auckland is surely a town worth seeing.

I recommend to all cancer patients to read How To Prevent and Treat Cancer With Natural Medicines by Mike Murray, and Beating Cancer With Nutrition by Patrick Quillen. Both books are approved by Cancer Treatment Center of America, and are full of the most amazing and interesting helpful info. Both books are available on Alibris.com if you can't get a copy locally.
Good luck and God bless!
