I bought my son instruments like toy piano, guitar, anything really that made a lot of noice. He also loved his wooden train set from ikea. It was really cheap and he still plays with it. He also loved Jigsaws with big colourful pieces, we could do these together. There is so much choice now and you really dont need to spend a lot. Hope this helps

I have 3 boys, oldest being 6 and youngest 1. They have a TON of toys and some of the ones that have been the best for them are....
Tents that fold up and down and you can put up in their room.
Art easle(they have a new one out I just saw on tv that talks and turns into a desk too. My kids are already asking for it.)
Any sort of ride on toy. (we have clippity clop horse that is small enough for a room, but fun for a toddler to ride, and it is soft so they can't hurt themselves.)
Although it may not be something you would want to hear a small drum set would be a lot of fun. My kids LOVE theirs! (Yes, I'm crazy! haha)
A train set is always nice. We bought a wooden one that rolls under the bed. It is a train set, and a bunch of games all in one. They are really nice! We got an off brand, not Thomas, at toys r us or somewhere for christmas last year. Kids still play with it a lot!
Best of luck! I hope this helps a bit.

hi
i have a 2 year old grandson, i have a room made up for him here when he comes to stay....i bought him fisher price educational toys like a misical keyboard, musical books educational center that teaches the child how to count, a play center with sounds and noises on it, something like this is good for a child of that age...you could also put in some big bean bags, or like you said, a teepee, be sure the bean bags are properly sealed, some of them contain them tiny little polystyrine balls, it's easy for a kid to break open a bean bag.. and they are murder for you to get them off the carpet....also dangerous for a child if they get in their mouth...... a little tool box is good, just be sure that these toys pass the safety standards regulations and that the little one does not find something small enough that fits in his mouth, what ever way you make his room, i am sure he'll love it

The best one I can think of is a New Zealand native. It's called a Buzzy Bee, and is a wooden bumble bee with wings and wheels. It's brightly painted in red, and 'clicks' when dragged behind you (the wings turn, too). Cheap, and available from the New Zealand shop, Covent Garden.
I'm also a fan of those trainers with lights in the heels. Kids love 'em.

A tool box is a great idea! You may also find a workbench to go along with it.
Trains are very popular for that age.
Costco has a great wooden dollhouse that included people, furniture, a garage and cars. It’s great! (Boys like dollhouses too).
Check out these sites (I have purchased from each safely several times)

Both. and a stocked easel with non toxic drawing/painting materials and a pretend kitchen and a child's doctor kit toy and stuffed animals, a doll, and lots of kid friendly books and the most important thing to keep in your child's new room is your love and attention.

They are into cars and digger trucks and Thomas The Tank Engine at that age. A tool box is OK, as long as you don't mind the noise and looking for lost pieces.

No matter what you get, the thing that will please him most is the box that the toy came in. Get a really big box, appliance size and make a little house out of it by cutting out windows and a door. Get a box of crayons and let him 'color' it up.
