I'll answer with a question, who on earth do muslims think they are? No one can offend you, hurt your feelings attack your culture? what planet are you folks from? People hurt my feelings, attack my culture, offend me multiple times a day, I don't call for their heads or wish them dead, hell sometimes I even learn from it.You don't want the world to have a negative opinion of you but you are always feeding into the image of a bunch of ignorant fanatics not any better than the ignorant fanatics in the christian world.

This really isn't anything new, anyone who paid attention to history class knows that the catholic church and the papacy is responsible for far more deaths and wars than Hitler and Stalin combined. but that pretty much ended with the renaissance. strangely that was about the time that people begun to figure out that religion services no positive purpose in governing a nation. So that's all been over for about 600yrs or so (give or take a 100) In the mean time Muslims are doing a wonderful job of proving his statement true, in spite his of a rather weak apology, which was totally appropriate considering what he spoke wasn't his words, it was a quote from a 14th century dialog between a christian and a Muslim. as for calling the man naive, that seems a little short sighted, he's managed to gain control of the largest, most powerful and diverse religion. his statement was not only heard by the Muslims but also by the leaders of every western nation who at the push of a button could wipe out all life on the face of the earth. he made it clear which side he stands on. he is a master politician. does he stand for ever thing good and pure as a religious icon should, that question makes me laugh, of course not.

I personaly believe that the pope has crossed the line with his statement. This is a crucial time for islam because of links between religion and terrorism. So it was very awful of him to attack islam and muslims and then appologize. I don't care if islam is linked to terrorism he should have defended the religion itself and not attacked the believers. Not all muslims are terrorists. Nazis were Christians, are all Christians nazis?
On the Pope's defense, the paragraph he read about islam's intention is by the way a true muslim document written by muslim leaders of the war against the cruisade a long time ago. So those weren't his own words. But the thing is why bring it up, a religious leader should cool things down and not throw more wood in the fire.
I hope all this bull about religion ends soon cos religion in any form is purer and higher than what we are making of it.
I think every one should pray to his god in silence and not try to impose his believes on others.
I'm sorry if i offended anyone. Didn't meen to ... lol

Benidict comes from old school Catholicism. That's why he is so tight-lipped and serious.
He does know about the Crusades and other violent church movements (like the Spanish Inquisition). Church history is a requirement for his position. Many orthodox schools teach church history. I know because I've been through the class even though I'm not Catholic or Orthodox.
I think his speech is too fluffy. He should of come straight out and said, "People, this war between Christians and Muslims is stupid, ridiculous, and too old. We must push for an end to it NOW!!!" That would of gotten his point across much better and faster.

i believe that some factions of Islam are violent, just as i believe that some factions of Christianity and Judaism are violent. for anyone to make a statement claiming that all members of any group are all the same is a sign of both ignorance and intolerance.
