Recently I got a Motorola Voice-enabled Cable Modem for Internets broadband connections as well a digital phone connections. I was using a regular phone line from a telephone company before I got the VeCM. Now I need to connect my phone to the VeCM that has a phone connection provided by another telephone/ISP company . Is there any way to connect a phone to both telephone lines by using a splitter as I don't want to terminate my old phone line?

You'll probably get better results by purchasing a two line phone and plugging each line into the same unit, or buying another phone to hook into separate from your existing phone.

I haven't run into a RadioShack box which accepts two lines and allows you to switch the phone between the two lines when one rings.

Be very careful about mixing POTS(plain old telephone service) with VoIP(Voice over Internet Protocol) services. The voltage in the POTS line can damage your VeCM if the connections are not correct. There is a way to "inject" your VoIP service into your existing home wiring. If all of your phone jacks are wired for two lines (red, green, yellow and black) wires all connected, simply locate your NID (network interface device) and unplug the telco feed for line two. The NID is usually located outside the house where phone company wires enter the home.

Go to Radio Shack, purchase a 2-line 3-way adapter. Plug it into the phone jack nearest the VeCM. Connect a standard phone cord from the VeCM to the line 2 connection on the Radio Shack adapter. A two-line phone connected to any phone jack in the house will now ring with POTS on Line 1 and VoIP on Line 2. If you don't want to purchase two-line phones, purchase more of the Radio Shack adapters. It has individual jacks for Line 1 and Line 2.

Be certain to tag the unplugged line in the NID with a label that says: "VoIP EQUIPMENT INSIDE - DO NOT CONNECT".
