can a air sanitizer be sprayed on every surface of my room to kill mold?

I recently moved into a dorm and the first thing i noticed was it smelled musty. It's virtually on basement level, faces north, and the grass is always damp. I wake up after a couple hours with a stuffy nose, red eyes, and aches. Also, could an ionic breeze filter out mold? Any suggestions on how to deal with problem would be great help.

Ionic filters are ok but what you need is a dehumidifier. Small ones can be purchased for 100 or less.
To kill the existing mold, air sanitizers will not work. Lysol will kill many forms of mold and you can bleach any surface that is safe to bleach but the best thing to use is peroxide. Be careful though as peroxide left on most surfaces has a bleaching effect. Peroxide does a more thorough job and kills almost all molds and mildew on contact. You will want to have a supply of clean water to wipe it off surfaces as soon as you have applied it. Also, be sure that you treat your window coverings. It is advisable that you use a white window treatment and mist spray the peroxide on both sides of them. Curtains and carpets are the worst breaders and hiders of both mold and mildew. I am allergic to both and have no cloth coverings on any windows. Instead I painted them with an acrylic paint that is easily removed with hot water so that they look like stained glass.
Without the dehumidifier you will have to treat all surfaces on an almost weekly basis. Since it is a dorm-room I would talk to someone in charge of the dorms and request that they purchase the dehumidifier. Use the argument that you are being made to live in an unhealthy environment. You are. Breathing these spores can create many respritory and other ailments as well as causing problems in the future with your immune system.
Do your research and go to the proper department well supplied with facts.

Oops, one more thing, Ionic filters have to be regularly cleaned with peroxide also. They will gather mold in the filters.

I would not stay in a dorm room with mold and they shouldn't expect you to either. Get a doctors note if possible and have them move you. Ionic Breeze's weren't rated very good in Consumer Reports. There are things the school can do to rid the room of any mold but they have to scrub and apply this special paint. Also there is this stuff called Damp X (or Rid X) to tame dampness. Check places like Linen's N Things or Bed, Bath & Beyond.

The best defense is a good offense! Get a mask and destroy all mold and mildew with a solution of bleach! A lot of products that say they destroy mold and mildew are expensive and consist of the same thing as bleach. You can get a spray bottle and a bottle of ultra bleach and make your own at a concentration of 10% bleach to 90% water. Be careful around rugs and clothing!!!! Then you need to get a dehumidifier to reduce the moisture in the air. A really cheap product is called Damprid. It is little beads and absorbs the moisture in the air. I bought this stuff for my daughter to use in her dorm last year. You can get this in the cleaning aisle in Walmart.

first find out why, the place is damp, that needs to be sorted out , before all else , to prevent it re-occurring ,before you have a hope ,of de-molding the place entirely.

(ie. faulty damp course ,l leaking roof, leaking doors and windows , lack of good ventilation, and plumbing faults

Washing all mouldy surfaces with dilute Bleach and water gets rid of visible mould ,

All other surfaces can be safely sprayed, with 50% white vinegar and water .( to take out the musty smell.)

clean all soft furnishings and carpets thoroughly,

Ensure as much good ventilation ,as you can ,

A dehumidifier will also be useful to deter mold .,

MOLD only breeds, in damp conditions ( THINK DRY!!)

Great answers ... # 1. move ... but if you insist on staying there know this; that bleach will not penetrate into tiny cracks and crevices it works great on smooth surfaces. But like into grout around tile surfaces it only kills what's on the outside, to kill the mold completely use Borax and scrub the area clean. And get a dehumidifier.
