Kittens can be spayed as early as 7 weeks; I doubt they can get pregnant earlier than 6 months of age. (courtesy to ladra - earlier, yes. get her spayed as soon as permitted)

Get it to the vet for check-up and shots, and ask the vet for advice - or rather, ask how soon s/he will get the kitten fixed. Generally, recently people advise very early (paediatric) fixing - see http://www.winnfelinehealth.org/reports/early-neuter.html - no, a cat doesn't have to be "at least six months old before he can be neutered"; that way of thinking may result in a litter, and its much, much better for female cats to be spayed before they first go into heat.

Good job for deciding to get her spayed, btw. Good luck!

If you found the kitten, you do not know how old it is now! Take her along to the vets and find out!

Aside from getting her speyed, you need her to get lots of injections; some of which need to be done at a certain age (although I cannot remember when!)

Oh, and please do not give your kitten milk - it will give her a VERY runny tummy!

How do I know? Experience! We were given a kitten and were told how old he was. Then the vet said we had been given wrong information! The previous owners cared so little about the cat that they did not know when the mother had given birth. He was riddled with worms and fleas, as well.

We had a few arguments getting him 'done' as he is a small cat. We moved and the new vet would not believe how old he was!

Oh, and get the cat insured! I know it may sound silly but it has saved us an absolute fortune over the years. And a friend of ours had a cat that was hit by a car. He survived, but lost an eye, had a broken pelvis, broken legs and so on (ignoring internal injuries). It cost over £5,000! And insurance is not as expensive as you may think. There are lots that do it - work on the cheapest one that gives you what you want. Do not necessarily go with your vet's choice (we use Direct Line)

And find a cattery you are happy with now, before you need one!

The age that a cat can be spayed varies from vet to vet. You should call your vet to find out when they are willing to do it.
We had a vet in Ohio that required the cat to be 6 months old. When we moved to Texas, the vet would do it at 9 weeks. Now we live in Alabama and the vet here wouldn't do it until our cat was 5 months.
They CAN get pregnant around the 4th month, but it is unlikely. Usually it is a little later than that. But anytime after their first heat is possible.

Usually ready to be spayed around 5 - 6 months. Female kittens can get pregnant from their first season which is usually around 6 months so I would get it done as soon as possible. Ask your vet when you take her in for her vaccinations, the first of which can be done between 9 and 12 weeks.

Do yourself a favor & run to the vet!!!!!!!!!!!! Get Frontline! We just did the same thing & our vet gave our older cat shots in anticipation of found kittens & did not mention the fact they could be infested... arrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhh! Spend the $ & protect yourself, your home & the kitten.

Spay as soon as possible. They can become fertile around 4 months.

Spaying is expensive, maybe these links can help lower the cost of doing the right thing.

generally if kept in a single pet or sex houshold 6 months but some vets will spey them from 4 months as i have seen cats at just under 6 months and they have been at a good stage in pregnancy so its possible after 4 months but not common if you have no tom cats at home and she doesnt go out of which she shouldnt until her vacs have been done and you may want to get an fiv/felv blood test done just to check esp as you found her outside you never know but if she isnt going out then you can leave her till 6 months and get her done then and she can go out with no problems

We 'rescued' two kittens about 8 months ago, we took them straight to the vets, they needed to have vaccinations asap, in two bouts (protection against cat flu etc), a course of flea treatment and worming. On the vets recommendation, at around 5 months we had the female 'done' and the male about 3 weeks later. They will need booster injections next year.

They have to be be at least 6 months old before they can be neutered, and I think they can get pregnant around this time. best to be vaccinated too. But your vet will let you know, and tell you how old the kitten is.

I would only get her spayed at 3 months. Think their first heat comes on at about 5 - 6 months old.
