I like the good rope chew toys..they look like knotted/twisted rope.. get good ones form the pet shops, not the cheapest ones at the dollar store..Soak them a few minutes in a can of chicken broth and dry in the oven set on lowest setting (overnight) He will chew them and not things he shouldn't..You can also make one with beef broth, so he has a change..when he looses interest, just wash by hand (no soap) and re-soak and dry..
the KONG toys are great, and will keep a pup occupied for a long time..
If it is a small breed, the beanie baby sized stuffed toys are fine..but clip off any plastic parts, (eyes/nose) and don't use one that is filled with beads..

Kongs are wonderful toys for puppies. You can stuff them with treats that are wedged in pretty well or with kibble and cheese stuffed into the ends so the puppy has to lick the cheese out, and it will keep them occupied for a long time.
Tightly woven rope toys are good too. If your dog is not a giant breed and a strong chewer, toys that are fleece and have a squeaky in them make for an interesting toy. Just watch to make sure that if the toy seems worn that you remove it - you don't want the puppy to swallow the squeaker. There are other hard rubber toys that you can play tug of war with, or let the puppy chew on. Balls will help tire the puppy out.

This is from my experience with our puppy, who is now 5 months old:
Toys:
- Her fave is a stuffed animal that kind of quacks like a duck. She carries it everywhere and whips it around.
- I highly recommend a rope bone - an all-around popular choice with most puppies.
- Tennis balls
- We bought a "treat ball" it is a large orange ball with a hole in it, you put kibble in there and the puppy rolls it around to try and get the kibble out. She likes it a lot.
- A Kong of course, which you can stuff with treats, peanut butter, milk bones, etc. Great time-consuming toy that is safe to chew.
Safe Chew-Toys:
- My vet said a big NO to Greenies
- He said rawhides are OK if you give one every 2 weeks or so, and supervise them. Once small chunks starting coming off, throw the whole thing out.
- The non-edible nylabones are probably the safest bet. Because they are expensive, I recommend taking your pup to the store and letting him choose (by sniffing) which one appeals to him. We spent $12 on one and our puppy is not the slightest bit interested in it. My experience is that the smellier, the better. We've had no luck with the bland white "chicken" flavour ones. The dark brown seem more appealing.
- Once he's a little older (maybe 4 months), try a large marrow bone from a butcher shop or pet store. They don't splinter (at least not with our dog), and the dog loves them.
I hope you plan to crate train, it is the best decision we've made!
Lastly - I can't emphasize enough the effect of exercise on your pup's behaviour. When our pup has had a lot of exercise, she is so well-behaved. On days we skip her walk, she is a little devil (chewing things, biting, hyper, etc). It makes a huge difference!

I never buy stuffed toys made for animals because the safety of the toy is not as good as the toys made for human babies. I go to thrift shops and buy a bag of hand sized toys. Puppies need to chew on stuff so they like socks with knots in them. The string rope thingy's but watch for overchewed spots. Put "bitter apple" on things the puppy shouldn't chew on, electrical chords and stuff. Don't apply to broken chords though (shocking reminder). Check out Cesar Millan's website. Don't let the puppy chew on you, when the puppy is older then he won't be drawing blood on you. Squeaky toys puppies love'm but watch the quality of the plastic. To thin and it could choke on a piece. Be clear, and consistent with your rules, boundries and limitations. The whole family should be on the same page. Teach the puppy to follow you on a leash. After the puppy is used to the leash, don't let it lead you. Choose a place for the poddy in your yard. Take her every 2, 3 hours. Don't punish a puppy for peeing on the floor. Just get her outside before she stops. Try to catch her just before she drops a squat. The puppy will look away from you and maybe take a couple steps then will start to pee. If you want to use a kennel/crate/cage it should be dark and cave like. The door should be open for the puppy to wander in and out of until you need her to go to bed or you need to leave for a while. A young puppy shouldn't be kept in the crate longer than a couple hours during the day. The crate is never a punishment. Dogs don't do timeouts. They live moment to moment. I wish I could be there to help you. Its fun with new puppies. Small dogs don't need leather leashes but if you get a puppy that is going to be a big one then getting leather is much easier on the hands. Boy I wrote a lot. Hope you read this.

Ok. You are starting off wrong already. Your dog will need more than just the best toys. Even if you had no money, show him love! That's all they need... Love, food, water, and occasionally medication or a visit to the vet. You want a good toy for a puppy? Get a small teddy that he can play with and pretend to fight with. This will also help develop his instincts earlier on in life. play with your puppy, but discipline him as well. You dont want a dog with no discipline. It could be disasterous.
Tennis balls, teddy bears, and soft toys are a good start. Just remember that if you buy him toys and have him in the house, he is going to chew things. everything from electrical appliance cables to your slippers to your furniture. Discipline is essential.
I congratulate you on your step. It is a good cause that you are saving for. Dogs are an assett. They even reduce house insurance rates!!!
Good luck and have fun!

Well if you dont know about puppys i think itll be best not to get one Just yet... speak to the pound 1st.. tell them what you are looking for
difrent breeds of dogs behave diferently..
as for this ( I have looked up everything that involves how to keep the baby healthy and what to do if he is sick and how to take care of him, but what I lack is guidelines to matters such as..
What are the best kind of toys for the new puppy?)
you dont let em chew give em a bone instead or a plastic bottle with a treat in it we do this with our dogs and it works instead of toys...
but defo speak to the pound 1st...

first of all make sure you pup is old enough to come to you house....rescueing a pup is wonderful..pup is safe ane you will feel the pride of saving the little guys life..now the adventure takes place..never, never take a pup under 8 weeks. of age..it just too early for them ..they still need mom and the interreaction with siblings..
second. most pups that come from a rescue have their first shots..check into this..
third. take the pup to the vet the same day you pick him or her up.
fourth, don't invite everyone in the neighborhood over to see the new baby..this first 24 hours should be just you and your new little one (he needs to get to know you and his new surroundings.
fifth. have a list of questions for the vet..any reliable vet will have pamplets for you to read..so you'll feel more comfortable being a new mom..
sixth. have the vet show you how to take the puppies temperature..the first thing a vet asks when you call with a sick pup/dog. is.."whats the pups temperature?
seventh keep the pet at home until you have all his shots. esp. his parvo vaccine.
eight love him with all you heart and the rest will come naturally.
ninth; good luck to you and your new little one..you have started on at 10 to 18 year adventure.
sincerely, the owner of 3 rescue dogs

In my life I have had many dogs around me and I think that rawhide is fine, any type of toy or chewie you give the pup should be given to him only if you can be there to watch. You don't want to give it something that will have little pieces break off, or sharp pieces. Some dogs like soft toys others like hard toys. Almost all dogs like a Kong, you can put a treat inside and he will try for hrs to get it out. I like tennis balls for our dog, she loves to chase it but can't swallow it. Try Dr's Foster and Smith they have good information, as well as the vet you will be taking your little one to.
