If his pain is severe enough to have to take two 200 mg pills every four hours, he should go to the doctor.
Also, your body comes immune to the pain killers, so if he continues to take so many at once, he's going to have to get stronger pills, resulting in a higher probablity of causing liver problems.

Over time, any medication that is taken for to long of time, will causes liver damage. Say if your dad were to take ibuprofen 5 times a day, let's say for 4 years. It can cause some liver damage. Not much, just a little.

That doesn't sound too bad. It is a lot but not so much to be dangerous, of course depending on the health condition of your father. I have seen my wife take as much as that and it helped her of her tooth aches which were very severe.
But, a week should be enough. Then call it quits.

any of these over the counter pain killers can cause liver damage.
Better see a doctor if there is that much pain.

They (doctors) say that it can cause liver damage. But in my case I did that everyday for 2 years and I'm still kickin around.

i know its hard on your liver. if you take them for a prolonged period the damage can be irreversible
