Immerse yourself in english speaking society. Refuse to use your native language and insist that no one talk to you in your native language. You may only speak english. Given that you cannot function well without english, you will learn it fast. Selfishness is a drive. To get what you want, you must speak english. I would say that within 3 months you may be quite fluent.

English is not my first language...I was once in your shoes..but I managed to try my best to improve my english and now I can speak english well...
English IS a difficult language and I'm impressed you're learning it. The reason it's so tough is because there are two very different grammar systems. English in the very beginning was a Germanic language (like German or Dutch). A lot of the "base" words for English like "the," "a," and "that" are part of this grammar system. In 1066 when Normans invaded England they were able to merge their Latin or Romance based grammar system into the language. That's where we get a lot of our words. For instance, "cow" is an Old English word and "beef" comes from the Old French "boef." We use cow to mean the animal and beef for the meat of the animal.
If you want to improve your English, the best thing you can do is watch lots of English and American television shows.
English has more adjectives than any other language, and lots of rules that are meant to be broken at times- so it is complicated! Some ideas to help you become more comfortable with it are: 1. Listen to music in English.
2. Read books in English, even children's books with stories that are already familiar.
3. Find a pen pal and write in English.
4. Use the web to find word puzzles and games in English that you can play while learning.
5. Remember when talking to foreigners that most people realize it is a struggle to learn a new language, and they respect your efforts. So don't be shy- just be patient!
Good luck...all your efforts are worthy if as long as you give your best and work hard!!!!!!!!!

The most important thing is to take every opportunity to SPEAK the language, ideally with competent native speakers.
And I think the idea of using a tape machine to improve your accent is very good.
Everything else might improve your vocabulary and fluency, but the only way to become really fluent is practice.
And don't be afraid, everybody learning a different language has made an eejit of themselves at one time or another. You'll survive.

A decade ago to learn English, you had to attend costly English classes or purchase course material like tapes and books. Now you can learn English for free from the comfort of your home using the internet. The BBC and the British Council offer a number of online courses which teach written and spoken English. You can also improve your English by watching television programs and reading English newspapers. For more information, visit http://tinyurl.com/qnzpt
