I have found a "guru" in many ways. To me, a guru is more of a vessel which channels enlightened thoughts and solutions to probing questions. I have come to feel that even though tradition has used the word "guru" to represent a human being, I have my own definition which offers a better understanding of the word.

I define "guru" to be more of a state of being and awareness. If a person can help another to a conscious state of awareness through his/her thoughts and wisdom, then that person is a guru. A place can also be a guru, for me. Certain places offer an immediate pause from the everyday mundane just by being there. I have several of these wonderlands where I like to retreat and turn inward. I guess you could say that I am my own guru. Everyone has this ability, but few listen and actually hear. The still voice of our higher self is what a guru is. A person who has a title of "guru" may teach something to many people in the same setting, and everyone will walk away with a slightly different perception because of our unique individuality. The slight differences are the reasons why we all are here. We all have something to learn from everyone we encounter. There is no coincidence and I look for something to learn from everyone in my world which I create for myself. I am my own guru, and everyone who I encounter and allow "in" by trusting.

If most people would learn to trust their own higher self, then happiness would abound. I hope that I did not digress from your question too much. This is what I consider a guru.

Although, Jesus, Parahmehansa Yogananda, Buddha, Plato, Socrates, many other philosophers have all added to my discovery of my own guru.

Have a wonderful day, Oliver! :-)

don;t like the term guru,

But I understand and implement the words of Dr Wayne Dyer and to a lot lesser extent Anthony Robbins, and my 4 year old son. He sees the world in a way that we adults have forgotten. I try and live my life in his reality and it is a sweet, secure, innocent way of life that we can all learn from.

Guru means Spiritual master or the one who takes charge of advancing his disciple on the path of Self-realization and taking him back to Home, Back to Godhead.

My Favorite Spiritual Master is His Devine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada.
The basic qualification of a Spiritual master is that he presents the teaching or word of God "As it Is" without changing them. The best Spiritual master is the one who dedicates his life in following the orders of his spiritual master, the ultimate Spiritual Master being God himself.
Srila Prabhupada showed this not only in his teaching but also in his practice. His highest quality, being of compassion on even the hippies and the very sinful, and his power to deliver them, and make them very high devotee of God or Krishna.
