I am a born again baptist and i read the bible... my dad is a roman catholic... he keeps telling me i need to go see a priest to confess my sinns.... why should i go to a man who is a sinfull man such as i am "for all have sinned and come short the glory of God" Romans 3:23
and confess my sins to him, i asked my dad and he say because at that time when you confess he is the mediator between me and God... but the bible clearly states "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" 1 timothy 2:5
Im not looking for a fight... Im just trying to open peoples minds.

The people who think the priest has the ear of God and they do not should read the history of the Catholic Church and the Pope and priests from a thousand years ago. That's also about the time the Pope required priests to not marry so that the church could inherit their estates. We all know being celibate is unnatural. That's why we have so many priests who are pedophiles or have secret families or sleep with women and/or men in their congregation.

There's no need for it. God hears ya just fine. No need for a priest at all if you ask me. I believe in the priesthood of the believer since the Resurrection and the veil for the holy of holys was torn in two meaning you can come straight to God without a priest. Thats why I have a pastor or another name for pastor is bishop(not to be confused with an arch bishop). Anyway, I think you are right.

If you buy the premise of "confession" then you'd understand the meaning beneath the sacrament; it is NOT a biblical reference, it is from an understanding of the role of Christ as the suffering servant, the Paschal lamb, the one who takes away the sins of the world.....
open your mind to the possibility that -for some religions-the act of confession is more about admitting guilt to yourself than the act of telling a priest about your "sins"; the priest serves more as a reminder to you rather than an intermediary with god...a reminder to you to try harder to "clean up your act" and live a better life

the catholic curch says that when you confess to a priest you actually confess to god, not to the sinful man in front of you. but if you don't believe that for real, there's no point in confessing.
maybe just to get stuff off your chest without being charged for it like a shrink does.

i don't think you have to confess to a priest. you can confess your sins directly to God. God already knows your heart and if you are truly sorry for the things you have done, HE will forgive you. You don't need a priest to do that.

I didn't buy that when I was in the seventh grade. I don't care what the bible says. Confessing your sins to anyone seems weird.

good keep your convictions, pray cause the only one who can open peoples mind is God, no matter how much we try we can't, God has to give us the Spirit so when we talk it's not really us but Him.

When you get to the pearly gate, someone will hold you accountable for all the sins you didn't confess. (Notmy belief.)

Here is my short answer:
John 20:23 Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.
