First it is mentioned in the Quran
Second for the good of the society. I can guarantee you that the Muslim countries and Muslim women aren't raped nearly as often as the western women (lets face it 1 in every 3 women are raped in the USA)
I personally don't like being any sick man's eye candy so i don't mind wearing the veil at all

It was an ancient traditioned formed in a patriarchal society to opress women that has stuck because it has been attached to the islamic faith.

since it is stated in the QURAN....
n its for the betterment of the society!!.. just like men r told to lower their gazes!!!!!!
but from some ahadith.. its that u have to cover urself except for ur face n hands n feet.. so most of the muslim women donot cover their face....
but i think the final verdict shud be of Quran!

because it is an order from God.
it is a sign of modesty. it conveys the message, "judge me by my brain, not my body"
why is taking off all their clothes so important for non-Muslim women? is this how they demonstrate to the world that they are free?

It is assumed that men will not be able to control their sexual urges if her face is exposed. It is just another way to subjugate women and keep them as second class citizens.

i guess muslim women are not allowed to have any power in their country and this is seen as a control power over them issue......so that they r not allowed to do a lot of things that stand up for themselves....but its really about CONTROL!!

the quran says she should cover her modesty with a vail I imagin at that time wimen bearly wore a dressw it was aimed at covering her breast not face
