Yes this is often asked by others, but chances of it are slim for you because it does command some technical expertise in reading in and reinterprete hex codes from the platter (true even for perfectly fine HD like yours)

Yes, when a harddrive is formatted, the information is not really gone. It just tells the computer that it is ok to write over top of the old data with new data...but until you do so, the old data is still there.

Important: Do not save anything else to your computer or make any changes until you recover the files. Saving files or changing settings can save over top of some of the files that you want.

There are free programs that will let you do this. Try: http://www.pcinspector.de/

Also, if you can avoid it, do not install pcinspector or other recovery program to that hard drive. Doing so can save over top of other information.

Anyhow, you should be able to recover nearly all of the files that you lost - as long as you haven't made many changes since you did this. PC Inspector makes this an easy process.

Yes you can, you may try Runtime Software GetDataBack for FAT / NTFS v3.03. It is really a best software. Install it in drive / partition other than the drive / partition you have formatted and also do not write any data on the formatted drive / partition. I think it will defiinitely recover your data. I also formatted my drive and i recovered data from it successfully. Also, the Ontrack EasyRecovery software is a nothing software.

It depends, you definitely won't be able to get ALL of the data back, but you might be able to get some, as long as you didn't use a program like DBAN to completely wipe and write over the drive.

Edit: Give this a try. http://www.experts-exchange.com/Storage/Q_20607973.html
