As the World entered the Nuclear Age at the end of WWII, there was a shift in strategy, due to the awesome destructibility of nuclear weapons.
Back then, we had a War Department. What that meant was that we went to war to win.
But with the development of Nuclear arms, no real war was thought to be "winable" so the United States dropped the idea of "winning" and went to a Defense Posture, ergo, the Department of Defense.
It's a "defense strategy" that we now pose, not a "war timetable."
Now that MAD is no more (mutually assured destruction), there will be a more wide-ranging adventurism in trying to wrest strategic materials (oil, titanium, uranium) from the rest of the world as the populations grow and scarcity looms.

Because we are not the only Country with that type of bombs anymore.. Besides it's not that easy to do.. Once we drop a bomb like that we will be getting bombed also. Remember 9/11.
There are only a few countries in the world that doesn't like us, if we dropped the bomb. We wouldn't have been any better off then Saddam. I have been to Iraq twice 2 years total. And there are a lot of very good people over there. As the U.S. has criminals Iraq has insurgents. Except that insurgents kills everybody. Economic wise it is just better for us to fight than to kill every one that gets in the way.. ( jbasmn1 at yahoo)

But didn't Japan show us who the boss was when they bombed Pearl Harbor. Ok, then we got them fired, and we got the promotion. But now, I'm a little concerned that China is eyeing our sweet corner office. Meanwhile, we're wasting our time at the water cooler worrying about the 9/11-mail room guy, who's lucky to be making minimum wage!!!

Because they are not interested in ending the war. They want it to go on for a long long long time so that they can give no-bid contracts to the defense companies so that they can get rich.
example Halliburton. Right after Bush said "Mission Accomplished Halliburton got the very first no bid contract. They did not even try to hide it. Truman dropped the bomb on Japan because he wanted to end the war and save lives. He was not interested in giving out more war contracts.

Bomb them? Who is them? In Afghanistan we have allies they were the northern alliance fighting our enemies the Taliban and al Qaeda. Are we supposed to blow away millions of innocents and allies and become even more evil than our enemies? To be serious you have to think of this war like a policeman thinks of a street gang. The gang might control a section of the city but most of the residents would like the gang to disappear. You don't nuke the neighborhood to get the thugs, You send in the cops to pick'em off one at a time. The more cops you send the faster the gang is put out of commission.

If your reffering to Iraq....I would imagine that they felt as though they could win the war swiftly without resorting to such a terrifying strategy. Remember in 1945 using the nukes were a last resort, also to drop the bomb on bagdad or jalalabad would have required the entire coalitions consent, wich would not have been likely.

Because the war would have been short, Dub-ya wouldn't have been elected again, and we would not have as much as an oil supply from the area, oil fat-cats would have had to take a cut in profits. Best guess.

Less serious answer, it would have messed up the time continuum.

When i saw the twin towers collapse i was certain, in fact i would of put my house on it that the United States was going to launch a Nuclear strike on certain countries.
Truthfully if they had done this i think this war on terror would not be taking place.
A lot of innocent people would of been killed, but when this war on terror is over which won't be in our lifetime there will be a lot more casualties recorded.
Again if the US would of struck when those towers came crashing down, i don't think many people would of condemned them, they would of been in total shock.

i could extremely be ineffective, or residing in a international under finished eastern/German administration than condone the killing of civilians by squaddies, or any kind of militia rigidity. it extremely is quite ridiculous that straightforward human beings could desire to pay with their lives for the concepts of their governments, judgements which they have not any genuine administration over. i do no longer incredibly blame u . s . a . of america, a extensive style of international locations have been in charge for this kind of component over the years, yet i will say that there is not any factor winning a conflict in case you are able to desire to sell your soul to accomplish that. in fact i could recommend that it is actual dropping a conflict under the guise of winning it. I wont settle for any "yet they attacked our civilians first" arguments the two, they are pathetically immature. i does no longer settle for them from an 8 12 months old.
