We have a firewire conection, and want to put all photos etc from one onto the other.

If you're just doing this once in a while, yeah, you can use Firewire. Hold down the "T" key on one of the computers to put it in "Target Mode". The Mac will show up like a disk image, much in the same way an external hard drive would, and you can access all the files just like it was a hard drive hooked up to your computer.

The more efficent approach for transferring files multiple times would be to create a network, using an ethernet cable and your ethernet ports.To do that, just connect the two computers up, and select file sharing from the Sharing preference pane in System Preferences. Make sure you set your firewall settings to allow this.

Firewire is plug & play, all you have to do is plug one end into one mac & vice versa.

You can network them & then share the internet connection as well as files.

Or just use an ethernet cable & the apple talk program to transfer files.
