I've suffered from depression since childhood, have been cutting myself for a while as well. I thought that was bad enough, but recently I've been taking up the practice of throwing up my dinner. I just get so disgusted with myself that it has to come out. This is something I really don't want or need to be doing. I know of all the health risks and that such, but most of the time (At least when I'm purging) I just don't care.
Have I tried therapy? Yes. I hated that arrogant, pedantic little doctor and I really don't want to meet another one. I honestly think I"m too scared to try another doctor, because I really don't want to be told what to do and how screwed up I am. (Well, one was of a mind to tell me how ridiculous he thought I was. Few doctors will even listen to you if you're borderline.)
So, I don't really want to see a therapist, and I doubt anyone can convince me to, but I need to kick this bulimic habit before it become a problem, and alone. Suggestions PLEASE.

Actually I'm not in the best financial situation. Rich is a near impossibility for me that will only be accomplished through rigorous discipline. Stop generalizing.

I'm sorry that you are having so many problems. But seriously, you cannot do this on your own. I'm not sure where you live, but try to find some resources in your area that can help you find a good counseling center. That will be the only solution for you I am afraid. There is some underlying issues that you have that is causing your depression, cutting and bulimic disorder. You will not be able to recover until you figure out what the underlying problem is and treat it. Best of luck to you. I wish I could offer a concrete way for you to stop throwing up, but I really don't think you can do it on your own. I'm sorry you had such a horrible experience with that therapist, but really, they aren't all so horrible, there are many different methods of counseling and there is one out there that works for you. Or try to find an eating disorders clinic, they often have a range of counselors that can recognize and help you with any other issues you are dealing with.

I know after having a bad therapist you might be reluctant to try another but I think it would be a good idea, just keep looking until you find someone you can work with. You may know that cutting and bulimia are both expressions of self hatred, and they could both lead you down a really bad path. Bulimia for one can lead to seizures and heart attacks, etc. A good book to get is Bulimia: A Guide to Recovery by Lindsay Hall. But both problems likely stem from the same place and won't stop without dealing with the source. You may need an anti-depressant, maybe temporarily to help you stop those behaviors while you work on the cause. Also you might want to read The Truth About Beauty, it is about beauty but also health and the author is a recovered bulimic, she talks about what she did in her recovery including supplements to improve her state of mind.

I truly have the utmost compassion for your situation...you are suffering from a severe disorder. But honestly, the only way to get any help is to help yourself. I can understand about not wanting to go for anymore counseling since the people you have been to see apparently have not specialized in the type of problem you have. Sometimes therapists aren't properly trained and cause more problems than they cure! But...that does not mean there isn't help out there for you ! Since you are aware of all the health risks (all the damage to internal organs, hemorrhaging of your throat, teeth turning black are only a few) I won't preach. If finances are a problem, there are clinics in every city...any hospital has help groups or can direct you to the proper location. Most important is to get smart..get help. All of these hurtful acts you do to your body stem from your depression and feelings of hate. As soon as you find the right person you can trust and confide in, your hurtful ways will slowly disappear. Wishing you the best...recovery is out there for anyone who wants it!

It already is a cause for concern. I know because I struggled with it for years. And yes I've had 6 bad therapists before I finally got a good one. It's worth the effort.
And just so you know, the longer this goes on for, the worse your metabolism will end up becoming. I've paid a high price learning that lesson, and I don't wish the same for you.

You need to hastle your docs and get refered to someone (or a therapeutic community) that specialises in BPD. That way they won't be prejudiced against you and they'll know what they're doing:)

Are you on an anti-depressant at the mo? May be worth going (back) onto them for a bit or trying a different one.

Other than that, make sure to make your everyday life as relaxing and fun as possible:)

O.K......you aren't in denial about what you are doing???? You want someone to snap their fingers and help you do what? You are absolutely going to have to get professional help. And there are docs out there that care. You are not the only one who does this and there have been several successful people in your situation. You are asking for help on a Yahoo! service, because you are either lazy and don't want to leave the house or you just want to see how much attention you can get here. Stop hurting yourself!!!
