We are killing our environment. Why dont people care??

What do you as a person feel you do to help the human race? What do you feel is special that you do to help the environment?

I think people generally DO care, however, it would require many potentially drastic changes for us to make a positive difference. Many people buy things they don't need, leading to the excess manufacturing of not only the objects themselves, but the packaging they require as well as paper for advertising. People don't drive the cars that get the best mileage (or even sensibly-sized cars) due to a strange perception of safety and invulnerability on the road in their SUV's. In turn, Detroit continues to make these vehicles because that is where the demand lies. People don't live in environmentally friendly homes that utilize recycled tires or solar heat due to perceptions of aesthetics (the homes are odd looking to some), or the fear of gaining a reputation as a hippy, eccentric, or social outcast. I think it is due to a fear of change, as well as being ostracized from peers and neighbors for being different.

I wish people cared more, but I do think that people care to some degree. It's the fact that changing is too hard. It is a disturbance to their routine and adds unneeded stress.

It's a shame, because we feel "Hey, it won't effect our generation, so who cares." But it does! It's obvious that the ocean is changing... hurricanes are getting stronger. We need to be more aware.

I have been a vegetarian since age 11, I ride a bike or take public transportation in the city, and I never litter. I feel that I make a very small effort to help out, and if everyone did the same, we could change the world.

because most of the american society is lazy and would just rather keep things the way the are instead of saving our planet beacause i think alot of people look at changing their routines to be freindly with the enviornment a hassle it's sad but well have to learn the hard way if we dont change
