If they are there to steal (meaning they have broken in to your home) that isn't trespass that's burglary & breaking and entering. If KY if you are in the home when that occurs you have the right to use defensive force (that may not the same as deadly force).

(1) A person is presumed to have held a reasonable fear of imminent peril of death or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another when using defensive force that is intended or likely to cause death or great bodily harm to another if:

(a) The person against whom the defensive force was used was in the process of unlawfully and forcibly entering or had unlawfully and forcibly entered a dwelling, residence, or occupied vehicle, or if that person had removed or was attempting to remove another against that person's will from the dwelling, residence, or occupied vehicle;

and

(b) The person who uses defensive force knew or had reason to believe that an unlawful and forcible entry or unlawful and forcible act was occurring or had occurred.

If they are just trespassing, how can you say with absolute certainty that they are there to steal? If they steal something, they are not a trespasser, they are a thief.

But the answer is the same either way: call the police. You can try to confront the person and make them wait for the police, but if you put your hands on them, you're in trouble. And they'll probably just run away, which lets them get away. Calling the police instead of confronting the person at least has a chance of the police getting there while they are still around and catching them. Don't be a hero, it's just property.
