The category is religion and spitiuality. so why do people insist on comming here to bash christians? I know some of us do some stupid stuff from time to time, but that doesn't make all of us idiots and radicals. 99.999% of christians are good hardworking people that go on day by day trying to be the best person they can be. Jesus tought love your enimies, love your neighbor as yourself, do unto others as you would have them do to you. If everybody lived by these christian teachings, we would achieve the world some of you supose we would achieve after the christians leave. I'm not saying that your opinions and beliefs are wrong, I'm just saying that if everyone would be more tolerant and open minded towards other religions and beliefs we might actually be able to get somewhere in this world.

The problem with religious, magical-thinking people, especially Christians, is that . . .oh, sure. . .they say that we might get somewhere in this world, but only if everyone else in the world would only think exactly the way they do. They do not believe there can be a good world unless everyone thinks the way they do and prays to the same dead prophet and reads from the same book. Christians and Muslims have no intentions of ever finding a common ground. It's all their way or no way. Christians consider it an insult when they hear anything different from their beliefs. It's not bashing. It's reality. Christians have been bashing me my whole life. Now it's my turn.

there is one area that the scripture (bible) taught which is not tollerant. We are not to tollerate, people who say they are christians who consistantly and without remorse do those behaviors that the Bible says not to do, IF THEY GO AROUND SAYING THEY ARE CHRISTIANS THEY SHOULD NOT BE TOLLERATED.
The bible gives direction to confront so called believers using a 3 step program outlined in Mat. 18. Who is to be confronted is covered in part in the epistles to Tim. Leaders are included.
Throughout history so called christians Leaders and followers have soiled the work of the Spirit and in doing so not only started wars for profit, but many other lesser issues on their own private agendas, while the Body of Christ watches and sometimes it would appear to others approve. Bush is an excellent example. In a case like this the Body should follow the program, if the offender repents and changes welcome him with open arms but if such a one does not make the changes then they should be publically denounced and ex-communicated. You asked why are we bashed. the reason is we do not hold our own accountable. If we continue then atTrocitys will continue to be attributed to the whole body and our witness shall continue tarnished to the point where we continue to rightly deserve the worlds condemnation.

I hope you understand
today we still suffer the results of a Pope 1000 yrs ago commiting aggression on Arabs. It is not too late to denounce him in absentia. the prescibed method can not be followed btu the intention of the rules would be be evident.

I find it interesting that a Christian is espousing tolerance for other religions and other beliefs. If you believe Jesus--who said he is the Way--then how can you tolerate a faith system that thinks he is a liar?

Also, I find it interesting that a Christian believes that we can get anywhere at all in this world. Christ told us what to expect--and the world looks just as he said it would look. Christ will return to judge the living and the dead, and he will keep that which is his and discard that which is not. Which assumes, then, that this which does not belong to Christ shall remain on this earth until his return.

There are no surprises here.

Actually do unto others as you would have them do to you predates christianity by over four thousand years. I agree that christianity teaches some nice concepts, but they can just as easily be taught without religion. As in, love your neighbour because doing so will help create the sort of society you want to live in, rather than because you don't want to go to hell. And 99.999% of non-christians don't come here to bash christians. See, I can make up statistics too.

1. I really like this part of what you wrote "I'm just saying that if everyone would be more tolerant and open minded towards other religions and beliefs we might actually be able to get somewhere in this world."
I agree with that. Sadly, if you look around YA!, the Christians (mostly) are the least tolerant and open minded towards other religions. They are often quite mean and judgemental towards others and will try to "save them" which is highly insulting to those of us who are happy and accepting of others.

2."Jesus tought love your enimies, love your neighbor as yourself, do unto others as you would have them do to you. If everybody lived by these christian teachings, we would achieve the world some of you supose we would achieve after the christians leave"
Again, it's sad but the Christians on YA! are the ones who often fail to emulate Christ in these ways. The judgement and verbal abuse hurled onto Muslims, Wiccans, gays, Atheists, etc are so frequent on here that people got sick of being tolerant back. It's very hard to stay level headed when you're just being repeatidly told that you're hell bound for your beliefs. There was a question on here a while back on who won't go to heaven: A rapist who repents, a murderer who repents or an Atheist who gives to charity. Most all the Christians said the Atheist wouldn't go to their heaven. Very few Christians came in and gave an intelligent, thought out response to that question. The ones who did were logical and kind and well versed. Most just put "The atheist cuz he don't believe in jesus. it's the only way" They make the religion look bad by association.

3. 99.999% of christians are good hardworking people that go on day by day trying to be the best person they can be.
Not on YA! No way, no how. I actually feel really bad for the kind, smart, tolerant Christians on this site because they are far outnumbered by bible quoting, non Christ like, intolerant weenies. Sadly, the intolerant weenies seem to come out in droves here in the R&S section. I've seen other Christians come out and say this too so I know that I'm not the only one who sees this.

4. "The category is religion and spitiuality. so why do people insist on comming here to bash christians?"
Yes, religion and spirituality. Not the Christians only section. Nobody comes in here 'just' to bash Christians just like nobody comes in here 'just' to bash Atheists. People come in here for discussion, debate and insight on others perspectives. Being told that I'm wrong for my faith and I'm going to Hell because I worship differently doesn't make me feel good. That goes for a lot of people in here. Know why Buddhists don't get bashed too often on here? Because they don't try to force others into Buddhism. They don't guilt and threaten others into it. If the majority of Christians on here would stop trying to convert and stop claiming to be 100% right and everyone else wrong, things would be different for them all.

Like you said, there are some truely kick butt awesome Christians out there. Like I said, there just isn't enough on YA! to outweigh the ones who give Christianity a bad rep.

icheeknow... makes nothing but excellent points.

It's all about accountability. It's not enough to talk the talk. You must walk the walk in order to gain the publics respect.

This same thing can be said for all religions. It is not enough to preach that your religion is peaceful, you must show this by example.

Kudos to you icheeknow... This is an excellent, well thought out and very enlightening answer. Thank you.

annontrainer,
My goal isn't getting somewhere in this world. My goal is to serve Christ. Iagree with most of what you said, but I think that it has a sort of fundie edge to it. I don't expect to live up to the expectations of others, I expect to keep on in faith. That is; trusting God.
