Well, Hondas are tough opponents for most car brands. You'll never get the same reliability out of a VW. But then, they are still a whole lot better than a few others, and they give you some real benefits - like a car which doesn't age, but marure, like wine. You can drive a 15-year old VW and still be considered stylish; try that with a Honda... it'll be up and running, but how do you feel about being seen in it?

Yes. Hondas are good, but not as good as they would have you believe. The 20 year old volkswagens I see driving around are in better shape than the 20 year old hondas, and I see more of them in spite of fewer sales.

I had a 95 golf and all I needed to do was the regular stuff, no unsceduled repairs (indeed, I let a few things go longer than they should have but no worries). When I sold it with 220,000 km, it was driving better than many new cars today.

Hondas and VWs both have pretty good reputations insofar as reliability are concerned, but I'd give the edge to Honda in that department. Also, Hondas are pretty common, so parts for repairs tend to be lower than average. J.D. Power and Consumer Reports can give you lots of info concerning initial quality and cost of operation.

It depends. If you want a small car V W's are very denpendable and worth the money. Whereas if you want a family car or an suv go for honda. Infact I have a honda suv and V W beetle.
Both of them are awesome.

Go stand on the corner. Count the old VW beetles. Count the old Hondas. You'll have your answer.

VW sales are down because they've had so many problems. Go to http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/home.cfm to find Consumer Complaints, Defect Investigations, Recalls, and Technical Service Bulletins for VW's
