I do not believe this is or ever has been about religion, this a war for control of oil fields. The religious rhetoric on both sides is just a tool to whip up the masses so they can be used for cannon fodder.

Hard to say as every so called war has some religious background to it.
These people have been fighting among themselves form a very long time over the city of Jerusalem as all of their Gods say that it made the land and city for them only to rule.
We have put our heads into a hornets nest by backing the Israelites and using brute force on the wrong people to justify the war which right now is more about trying to get cheap oil than quelling a army lead by Osman Ben laden who they cannot catch. and have turned our attention to a different target that is just easier to find but has more fanatics and weapons than we anticipated. Blame the Commander and Chief and company for this.
It is also predicted hat the United States will one day give up in dusgust trying to be the Police force of the world.

No I don't think the current conflict between Islamic Fundamentalists and Christians will bring the end in sight.
Actually, global warming and the resulting food shortages it will cause will cause societal upheaval that will eclipse anything going on now. Also the environmental disasters that global warming will cause will also be thought of as "the end" by religious people, but there is no God and all of Revelation is a lie.
This is just a planet with an "advanced" life form on it. Humans will probably survive the catatrophes brought on by global warming, but it will be a far different world, and there won't be very many people around.

I doubt it... There have been numerous religious clashes throughout history most prior to the creation of Islam after the 6th century A.D. The ones after that timeframe involving said Christians and Muslims include, but are not limited to, the Crusuades and the Inquisition (to some degree). Again, history seems to repeat itself both the positive and negative... With that, the conflict now is almost completely political and the only religious aspects are being brought in by the terrorists and ignorant folks who do not understand the separation of American Interests versus Christian interests...or whatever other interests. It is not a Crusuade nor, of course, should it be!

If there is a religious war, only the christian countries are in any position to start it. And it isn't all the muslims who are protesting, either. They're pissed off because the pope said nasty things about them, and they have a right to be. As long as they keep their protests peaceful (and almost all of them have) they're just exercising free speech. I thought you americans were really big on free speech, or is that only when you agree with what's being said?

Irrespective of my thoughts of the man. Yesterday I heard the supreme leader of Iran Ayatollah Khamenei say a very wise thing. He said that Jihad should not be seen as war on every non muslim but only on those that wrong, accuse or spread hatred towards Islam. If they could all stick to that we'd allready be 50% better off. If then the opposite sides would start to show some respect and restraint we shouldn't have a problem anymore.
