MS office will do for simple office work...if you are specific about your requirement...I can suggest more softwares.

as you did not specified what kind of work i'll specify some
opensource and free sofwares for your routine work.
http://www.openoffice.org/ : one of the office application which
is equal to the microsoft office while you have to spend
any where between 10000-15000 for this ms package
open office is completely free of chage
http://www.thinkfree.com/ : an online office suite you can use anywhere it also gives you 1 GB of free space to start with so you
can do your office work any were.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/ : an easy too use tool
to create pdf from any document
http://www.mozilla.com/thunderbird/ : a free email client that is similar to outlook express which is free

Sir, you are asking personal computer and only use in office. I am not familier in computer line. But I hope to suggest window xp ,256Kbs speed limit, 80GB storage. That's enough for you. Better calculate your usage per day. if it is minimum. Prescribed PC is ok. Thanks.
