how do I keep her from doing that?

First of all you need to change her to high quality kibble dog food..If her poops are big, she is eating mostly fillers, such as corn, and not digesting the food..Canidae, Innova, Wellness, Solid gold, Natural Balance, and Wysong, are all good dog foods you can find at local pet supply shops..Your puppy deserves a really good food.

She is not doing anything that she believes is wrong. She was taught this by her mother, when the mom kept the nest clean. When mom became too overwhelmed to keep clean after all the litter, the pups were good little helpers and did it themselves....They didn't have gloves and bags, so just did it the way they could. She is just being fastidious. Please DON'T make a fuss over it..That will only confuse her. She will not get the point, and you will have a messy and traumatized dog.

Dog's ancesters have done this for eons, to keep their area clean and to not let predators know where they live. It is as natural for them as hand washing is for people.

The only solution is to consistantly beat her to it. Hopefully she will learn that you can be trused to clean it up so she doesn't have to.... Meanwhille, there is an additive available (Forbid) at all pet supplies that will make the stuff very bitter, or you can give a couple of pieces of pineapple in her food. This may help some.

Note: the ones that do this are usually the easiest to house train, as they are good house keepers!

Have you tried to give your puppy Iams or Eukanuba puppy food instead of store brands? That will make the puppy poop less and will be smaller in size too. The smaller the poop, the nutrients are remaining in the puppy's body. As for stopping her from eating the poop, there are sprays and powders which you can use in the food which will discourage her from eating it. Visit your nearest pet store; they should have the stuff. Good luck!

usually an excess amount of poop is a sign of poor dog food. Many of the cheaper brands of dog food use meat "byproducts" and a ton of "filler". Purchase a good food like science diet or purina one and see if things change a bit. Mix the new food in with the old food a little more each couple of days to prevent the runs and dont get scared if the pup doesn't seem to want it's new food after the 100% switch has been made... they get hungry enough, they'll eat!

Just like rabbits, they eat their own poops. Because when they are young, their digestive system is not very good, so they have to eat it again to digest it a second time. Well you can help to clean it if you don't her to eat it up a second time.

By the way tell you some jokes:

-Doctor! I have a serious problem, I can never remember what i just said.
-When did you first notice this problem?
-What problem?

One more joke:

A guy calls his vet and says "What should I do with my cat?Vet says "What do you mean? Guy says "I had a leak in my lawnmowers gas tank and the cat drank the gas. Then the cat began to run around and around the yard, climbed a tree. then fell out of the tree stiff. Vet says "Is the cat dead? Guy replies "nope he ran out of gas.

Last of all just want to tell you that whatever you do, just don't give up. Also you must love and care for the people around you. In that way they will also show you the love that you show to them. Just be yourself and happy everyday. Wish you all the best and good luck!!

A lot of puppies and dogs on diets eat their own poop. This behavior is known as pica. They are seeking nutritional value from their feces from undigested particles in the stool. There are commercial products available that you can put in their food to prevent this behavior, but you can also lace their feces in tabasco sauce. (best done under cover of darkness, to avoid the neighbors questions)

There is a powder you can buy from the vet. Mix it in his food and his poop will be gross

If you add a spoonful of pineapple juice to her food it can help make the poop distasteful.

maybe you should try to feed it in small portions at different times of the day that way the poop hopefully wont be huge and it wont be hungry , if this continues you should call the vet .

My old dog honey used to eat her poop, but only in the winter. We called them "poopcicles" :)
Be careful she can get worms form that.

There are supplements that you can give to your dog to help with that. He has a nutritional deficiency...why eating poo would help a vitamin deficiency is beyond me. Get thee to a vet!!! :-)
