Actually, you have an interesting question here. According to the New Testament, God decided who was going to Heaven before he even created the Earth. ( Rom.8:29-30, Rom.9:11-22, Eph.1:4-5, 2 Tim.1:9, and Jude 4 )
He decided who would go to Heaven. For those people, he justifies their actions, and they can literally do nothing that will keep them from eternal glory. Anyone not pre-ordained by God will NEVER reach the kingdom of Heaven, no matter how hard they try, and if it looks like they will accidentally end up there, he tricks them into sinning so they will go to Hell. ( 2 Th.2:11-12 )
Your "toy" analogy is spot-on. We are merely action figures of the Lord. Fortunately, it's all a myth, eh?

Any question pertaining to 'god' is unanswerable due to the fact that such a deity is unstudiable. First you'd have to asertain weather or not god exists and which one if any. Then come up with a hypothesis and formula of study based on why god would want to punish or reward us anyway. Then of corse you'd need a control so you'd need another god if available to be the bad god or good god or what have you and yet another god that would stay out of life's way and see what results match our own situation and you'd have your answer.
You also have to look at the source of the majority of our western religion. The Bible. Wow. A book thousands of years old written, translated and manipulated all by MAN not GOD where we come and say oh but look here is the word, you can't see him, but you must have faith and be good or else you'll go to a bad place way down in a firey pit of death and doom.
There's of corse the parental view-point whereas two people have intercorse and planned or not sometimes a baby is made, or, 'created'. This child would then be wanted or unwanted. Rarely a 'toy' though. Now this child has a mind and free will, so the parents do what they can to raise is into a life of righteousness, using both punishment as well as rewards, but things don't always go to par. That's the ***** of free will. Which is a whole subject matter in itself.
I hope this gives you a taste of the strange aftertaste that is the universe. I would highly suggest opening your mind and reading as much as you can about different religions and live and learn and make your own decision.

Well, it is like this. God gave mankind free will. In doing so we have the choice to do good or evil. The reason God gave us free will is not to treat us like toys but it is an act of love. No one truly loves another by forcing them to do anything.
Having said that most everyone will agree man is created in God's image. Jesus Christ revealed the Holy Trinity.
God is spirit. He cannot be seen. If you were to examine all the creatures, the CREATOR has made a pattern emerges: angels and demons are intellectual creatures without a body; plants and animals do not have an intellect but a body and mortal soul. IT IS ONLY LIVING, HUMAN, BEINGS, that have a MIND, BODY, and SOUL. Only human beings have all three. Now, living, human, being is the existence of man. Those words describe the essence of man's mind, body, and soul. The Body is living, the Mind makes us human and distinguishing us from animals, and our Soul makes us the being that we become (good or evil).
Now, even Muslims will agree Allah is omnipotent (all powerful), omniscient (all knowing), and omnipresent (ever present). These words describe the existence of God. So, what is the essence of God? I will hold off answering this question till the end.
Now, if you think about the existence of a person they have a triple existence: physical (body), mental (mind), and spiritual (eternal soul). In fact, whenever we create something it has all three of these parts. When we cook we have a recipe (in our mind), we gather all the raw ingredients, and we cook (don't burn it, ha ha) what it is we are making. Cooking has the physical, mental, and spiritual parts. Same with engineering or technology it has three parts: the blueprints (to convey an idea), the raw materials (physical), and the workmanship (spiritual). If something goes wrong investigators will look for a design flaw, material flaw, or faulty workmanship. THIS DEMONSTRATES CREATION HAS THREE PARTS LIKE THE CREATOR.
Now, in the Bible it says Jesus is the visible likeness of the invisible God. (Colossians 1:15) The ESSENCE OF GOD IS: Father (mental), Son (physical), Holy Ghost (spiritual). ONE TRUE GOD IN THREE JUST LIKE A PERSON. THREE PARTS ONE PERSON. When you are sick you send for a doctor; when you are mentally troubled, a psychiatrist; when spiritually seeking you seek out a holy person.

In my opinion, I don't buy the idea God punishes. I like to think of Him as love and highly compassionate being. If we suffer in life do we see God's hand slapping our faces? When God create everything which includes us, there's a certain laws to follow. There's the spiritual law and physical law. I believe God is not lifting His hands to accommodate the few by breaking His own law. If one of us suffers there must something we have done that warrants it. It is actually our own doing that makes us suffer because of our ignorance of the spiritual law.
Let's take the physical law. Let's say you understood pretty well what gravity is all about. But out of sheer ignorance you want to defy that law by hurling yourself from the 2nd floor. You get hurt.
In spiritual law, it was given so that we may evolve spiritually and when the right time come ultimately returning back to Him like a stow away children returning to their father. So our purpose in life is really to learn who we are, why we are here, and where we are heading and all other philosophical questions.
I don't blame you if you think God the way you question it because it was ingrained to us by the world culture of reward for good and punishment for bad behavior.
God bless.

No. God never created us. We are the creator of our own destiny. our own samskaras (Good and bad deeds)
When we are doing crime on others we may be punished in our next life. also if we do some good deeds like helping others it is nothing but like a bird in a Golden cage. We get a better life in our next life. But what we need to understand is to liberate ourself to reach God in this life itself. This is simply taught in a system called sahaj marg.

If God is our creator, our purpose is to build upon the expanding knowledge base our race has developed, nurture our children so that they grow up as healthy and mentally stable as possible, take care of our planet so it will be the host of many more generations of us, control our population for the same reason, and not expect any help from our "creator" to do any of this because God clearly isn't around now and clearly does not really interact with us in any way whatsoever.

God has nothing to do with us; as long as we separate ourselves from Him. God is all pervading and He is an embodiment of love. We are responsible for our own punishment and reward against our own actions.Of course , becoming a toy in His hand is better than remaining without having any control over our deeds.

Thanks God, you wrote God is the Creator.
suppose if you are a creator, what role you will play to run the world.
Think what role our mother played during our childhood.
If you do masti, i will punish you.
If you do good think, I will reward you.
She loved us, punish us, etc. etc.
He has to look every thing.
like on what way you are.
If you do this, you will become good or bad boy in future.
So,its not like that she treating us as toys.
Because she is mother.
She know her role better than child.
So, Here, God is not only creator like mother, But he play his role like mother by punishing, rewarding. God never treat us like toys, but it's our negativity that force us to think that we are treating as toys. We are human beings, we are son of god. We are alive, We breaths, we eats, we laughs, we cry. How can mother treat her child as toys.

No, God created us for one main reason. And that is to have a personal relationship with Him. Look back to Genesis in the bible and it states that God was lonely so He created Adam. God gives us all free will to do what we want to. And by Him making nature we have no excuse as to weather or not their is a Creator. He has clearly shown us the most precious and unconditional love and gives us all a chance to accept it or not. It's your choice. Heaven or hell. I know where I'm going....Have any more questions, just ask me.
Don't ever forget that you have been bought with a price...one so great you'll never know how great....
Romans 8:38
God Bless you.

You are asking this question, may be you do't have an experience with God, the creator !
First get an experience with God then you will not have such questions.
If you are against God, sure one day he catch you...in your life...then do't ask me again...that is the experience of so many...
Read Bible...go though it carefully...learn more, without asking unnecessary questions...peacefully, wait for sometime in your life...you will rejoice it...see how Christians are living in this world? Experience it...realize it...rejoice in God, my friend, in Jesusu Christ our saviour.
He will cover your all problems, questions, thinking, etc.etc. you will get NEW LIFE...
When I saved in the blood of Jesus, I become a new man...I rejoice...
My Life experience say so many things... here I have no place to explain it, as I can't explain all...it is beyond explanatins!
May Jesus help you...
Best of Luck
