First off....i am so sorry about what you have endured as a VNV...I remember how the Vets were treated by some when they came home...You guys were involved in a war during a time when people were allowed to be anti-American in their behavior..and while you were over there serving your country...they were back here abusing drugs and flopping around with no bras...Even to this day...you continue to take abuse for it and none of it was your fault as far as I am concerned..the government gave you your orders...I am sorry that you have the feelings of wanting death...Veterans get the most crappy treatment and sometimes it makes me so angry when i think of the people who never served this country, (like Kerry and Clinton) who have done nothing for the Veterans...I wish i had the ten grand you need to pull you through..but I don't. ...The Lord will ease your mind friend...just Pray to God, through Jesus...and He will help you find the answers...I am proud of you and so many of my friends from the 'old' days appreciated you and remember well..

You most likely have PTSD. This can cause severe depression. Many Vietnam veterans have committed suicide over the years.
You miss the the adrenaline high you got from being on the battlefield and you are probably understimulated in civilian life.

My father is a veteran, and has struggled through depression since he was wounded in the war. He's even attempted suicide, but I thankfully hadn't been born at the time.

Are you seeing a counselor or involved in the Veteran's Administration in any way? This could possibly help. There are tons of people that treat this very problem.

My uncle was in Vietnam, and hasn't been the same since. I think a lot of people were changed by the war, not just physically, but psychologically. I don't know that I will ever understand what you're going through, but I wish you the best. Find a strong support system, and lean on it! I personally applaud you for your service. Best wishes in the future.

You're not alone and there are people out there who can help you. Life is short anyway, do what you can to enjoy the rest of your time on earth. Even feeling the sun on your face and hearing the wind through the trees is reason enough to live. Just reach out to someone who can help you get over your difficulties. We all need help at some point in our lives.
