My hair was really long prior to my pregnancy and I maintained it weekly by going to a Dominican salon. After my pregnancy I started to shed tremendously. Reluctantly, I let my stylist put a relaxer in my virgin hair of 5 years. Then my hair started falling out in patches. I don't know what else to do. I'm so ashamed because my beautiful hair is gone and now sores reside around the front perimeter of my scalp. Any advise would be helpful.

i am a professional stylist and i can assure u of this, it will grow back. dont sweat it. however, did you have an allergic reaction to the relaxer? or why did you have hair fall out then? thats a concern. but your hair texture has since changed since the pregnancy. dont blame the relaxer chemicals or the stylist. its sometimes the unfortunate thing that happens when you conceive. curly hair persons go straight, thick wavy turns thin and straight. that may not change even after the birth. but the alopecia-(bald spots) will grow back. even the reactive (burned?) spots, will grow back. does that help? for the sores try some benedryl and seabreeze antiseptic daily with some other healing ointment (desitin with neosporin is great combo)

1) See a doctor to see if there is a medical explanation for your hair loss and to ask how to help it to heal.
2) In the meantime, perhaps you could ask your local pharmacist?
3) For now, treat your scalp gently! Don't wear wigs for a while so it doesn't rub on the sores. Find a gentle soap for cleaning your hair and scalp so the sores don't get infected, but also won't get too irritated. Try not to feel bad - remember it is not your fault and I'm sure there are other people who have had the same thing happen! I bet that once you get healed up and your stress level decreases, you'll be fine!
