So Jesus supposedly died for our sins. In doing so he was condemned to hell for 3 days then got into heaven. Now people are expected to believe in him, worship etc to earn eternal life. Shouldn't we all be able to get off after 3 days? It's like the neighbor kid who wanted 20 bucks for doing a half *** job mowing my lawn.

The Apostle's creed sattes that Jesus "Descended into hell"

I don't understand why half of you are having trouble understanding the question. Jesus died for our sins and did three days in hell to pay for said sins. Now in return, people are expected to live just so to get the same reward. I'd rather do the 3 days for my own sins. Now for those of you unfamiliar with simile: Jesus = the kid mowing my lawn. He wants $20 (my eternal worship and $) in return for his half-*** job (3 days in hell as opposed to my eternity). Get it now?

That man-made, made-up story is a bunch of baloney. There is absolutely no logic in God sending His son to suffer and die for man's sins.

The word 'hell' is a very general translation of several Greek and Hebrew words. The particular word in that passage you used would be more accurately translated 'grave'. It wasn't a punishment, it's the next place you go after you die.

It is very difficult sometimes to find an accurate English word to describe an ancient text conveying an idea that we don't really think of the same way. It's even more difficult to use those words to argue theology.

The hell of fire, the eternal punishment, is not usually what the Bible is referring to when we read the word "hell". You should research it. You'll learn some interesting things.

Christ doesn't want your money. Religious "leaders" want your money. They don't know anymore about hell or heaven than you do. If you want to know God, seek him Nobody else can tell you who he is. Similarly, if you really think you can handle a 3 day stint in hell ask for it, you might get it. Incidentally, 3 days of our time is not the same as 3 days for Christ in hell. Those 3 days were both an eternity and instantaneous from his perspective. The truth is, that's how many days the soldiers spent crucifying him, hacking him to pieces. He kept coming back. There wasn't one crucifixion and one resurrection, it kept happening over and over, for 3 days of our time. They eventually gave up and tried to lock him up out of sight in a cave. While they were butchering him, he was out of his body with God, then back in his body, in and out. He knew what was happening but rarely felt it. In the meantime, he and God were exchanging the "breath of life", and rewinding the entire universe and starting it up again, having created a new future path for humanity. It doesn't matter what is left to read about these events, since none of what we have was written when it happened. It also doesn't matter whether anyone believes this account or not, the truth can't be changed. Whether you visit hell or heaven, the truth is known in both realms. If you think you can do the same thing in 3 days, try it. See if you can be butchered and keep coming back to life, all the while looking into the eyes of the soldiers doing the murdering and seeing extreme fear and panic, with renewed zeal to find a way to kill you. Today, you'll have to suffer much worse torture, since they've learned a whole bunch of new ways to kill since the time of the Romans.

Jesus' body was in the grave for 3 days. He didn't suffer in hell for 3 days.

While his body was in the tomb, Jesus went to the place where all the souls of the just had been detained and were waiting for salvation. He announced himself, and escorted them all to heaven.

Contrary to popular opinion, Jesus didn't pay the penalty for all our sins ... his sacrifice made possible the forgiveness of those sins, and he also destroyed Satan's dominion over mankind.

If Jesus did pay in full, the penalty for all our sins, than people would no longer need to die anymore, we wouldn't need the church or baptism, and Jesus would be confined to hell, where he would have to stay for all eternity.

And Jesus didn't "supposedly" do anything. He truly and actually accomplished everything he came to accomplish, exactly as it was meant to be accomplished, according to the divine will of his Father.

One more thing ... it's still left up to each one of us to accept what he did for us, declare our faithful allegiance to him, and ask him to forgive our sins ... and that's typically done through baptism into his church.

If you haven't yet decided what to do about that, I suggest you act on it, before it's too late.

Jesus was not condemned to HELL. Rather he descended into hades which at that time had two sides. Paradise side (for believers) and hell for sinners. Jesus freed the captives of captivity (called Abraham's Bosum) in Paradise so that they might be resurrected with him. Those sinners in hell are still there waiting for the white throne judgment of Revelation chap 20:

Jesus never went to hell, He went into the grave for 3 days, but His soul went to the place called Abraham's Bosom, where all the OT people where being kept until Jesus could preach to them the news of salvation, now they are with Him in Heaven. Jesus didn't have to go to hell because His death was payment for our death, and those that believe will not be sent to hell, but on to Heaven when we die.

Any chance you will listen to cork or peaceman?
Wow read water boy that's an answer for you.
The question has been correctly answered.

Your anger is blocking the truth from getting in.

Jesus = no sin PURE
Jesus - NOT condemned to hell; went there for a purpose.
Goes to hell OF OWN FREE WILL, BECAUSE OF PLAN.
PLAN is to GET KEYS and free souls trapped by Satan, wrongly.
JESUS goes to heaven with keys, of earth, has power over HEAVEN AND EARTH now.
Jesus starts to wait for rest of plan to be complete.

GOD does not expect us to worship him.

GOD does not know what we will do - HAVE YOU HEARD OF FREE WILL - GOD GAVE US THIS - remember?
So
Humans with free will = unknown quantity.
GOD = which way will humans go?

So, be free to live as you want, and be happy. You are under no obligation to follow GOD or Jesus. You are just supposed to be a human, so be the best human you can.
You earn eternal life, by your actions mainly. Not under threat of hell, but out of love and respect for what GOD has given you - this is where humans have been motivated - from the gratitude of all the gifts GOD has given them.
Review yourself, and take inventory of your gifts; and you will find you are blessed thousands of different ways, two that pop to mind are your skills at the written word, and your intellect.
Humans are supposed to never go to hell in the first place!! We are forwarned and have representatives that are trying to prevent any of us from going to hell. We have Jesus and a set of policies to follow - if we want - to guide us as we live. We are under NO FORCE to follow these guidelines. We have our free will, and this lets us know whenever force is around. (It's that weird feeling people get, ya'know?)
Well I hope you understand cork and peaceman. I hope your anger will be gone soon, and being calm you can see Jesus is pure and followed the plan. NO ONE GOES TO HELL FOR THREE DAYS. HELL is there as the opposite of Heaven, the opposite of the reward that heaven is, to the souls that GOD sends there. GOD decides every souls final resting place. We all hope you end up in heaven.

Peace.

People get it into their mind what a word like hell is to them [ or their religion ], then ever one else is required to see it their way, even God and Christ.

Hell appears 31 times in the O.T.

Jesus was placed in a cave on a stone slab, the door was closed and ths was the practice of the people. John 19:38-42; Acts 2:31-35 Jesus was resurrected out of sepulchre hell the tomb, cave, grave of the dead as asleep, and David was still there waiting to be resurrected as Jesus. 1Cor.15:22 As in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

2Chr.28:1-4; Jer.7:31,30; 19:2-5; THIS IS HELL AS PARENTS BURN CHILDREN IN FIRE.

Jesus died and went to hell yes, He didn't stay there because he had committed no sin and thus a just and holy God could not allow him to stay in hell for to do so He would have punished and condemned an innocent man.

Its important to note what "hell" actually is. The word actually means "to cover over or conceal". So hell isn't a fiery place of torment as some religions claim it to be. Consider an old English expression "helling potatoes" which means not "to roast them", but instead, to simply place them in the ground or in a cellar. SO, Jesus going to hell only means he was in the grave for 3 days before being resurrected.

I would like to point out that Jesus had his own sins to pay for. Fighting in the temple and stealing the donkey ring a bell to anyone? How about working on the sabath?
