I just became a Christian, but I can't just forget all the rational truths I know about the Bible. It is not all true. I know that. But does that make me any less of a Christian?

You should focus more on having a sincere relationship with Christ because the bible can be interepted in many differents ways, and right now, there is really no way knowing which interpretation you should go by. So just be sincere with Christ, he should understand what you are saying.

A sincere relationship with Christ is based on trust that He is the Way and the Truth and the Life. If you find it hard to accept the Bible, are you sincerely accepting Christ as the Truth?

It may be that you consider certain things in the Bible to be untrue because you don't understand them properly yet. But our lack of understanding does not make something true into something untrue.

Just remember that the Bible is not a secular history book, or a science book, or what have you. It is a history and a guide to the salvation of the human race through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It is a chronicle of the relationship of God with His people. And on that level - the spiritual level that is essential for our salvation, there is nothing in the Bible that is not true. But one has to know how it should be interpreted.

Read the passage in the Acts of the Apostles, where the Apostle Philip was sent to meet an Ethiopian eunuch on the road from Jerusalem. The Ethiopian was riding in his chariot reading the Psalms, and Philip ran along side and asked him if he understood what he was reading. The eunuch replied, "How can I unless someone explains it to me?"

So the short answer to your question is that a sincere relationship with Christ incorporates a trust and confidence in the spiritual truth of the Bible.

I hope this helps.

No, not 100% but there are some things to take into consideration before declaring the Bible an invalid source to believe in. You ask a lot of good questions.

There are some problems with the Bible and errors. Please remember, the Old Testament was passed down by oral tradition before the technology of writing was available. Compared to the Quran which existed long after the technology for writing was invented. So, yes there are errors.

Secondly, there are different ways to interpret based upon the "literary forms" of writers. Depending whether it is in a historical context, prophetic, poetry, or some other type of literary form.

If you took a Bible course and discovered what SCRIPTURAL TYPOLOGY is you would be amazed. If you knew what SALVATION HISTORY was in the Bible you would understand. If you recognized DIVINE AUTHORITY you would know that there has to be someone in authority to reveal the "secret" truths God has given. If you research all those phrases you will begin a journey of discovery that will last a life time.

We have a saying in Catholicism: the New Testament is hidden in the Old and the Old is revealed in the New. There are many mysteries contained in the Bible that I have been amazed at discovering for the past 20 years and there is a whole lot more. St. Jerome said: Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ. The whole Bible is about our SALVATION: Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ fulfilled over 300 prophesies in the Old Testament about the Messiah you can discover 50 of them in cd's IT IS WRITTEN.

WHEN YOU HAVE BEGUN TO DISCOVER THESE THINGS YOU WILL KNOW IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO HAVE BEEN WRITTEN BY MAN. Jesus (a historical figure along with others in the Bible that are not fictitional characters) by fulfilling just 50 prophesies makes the odds of doing that 10X135 power! An astronomical figure that could not have been achieved by human means.

The thing that might shock you and others is that SATAN used scripture to tempt Jesus. So, too Satan will use scripture to trip us up from following the true faith. This is why there has to be DIVINE AUTHORITY that passes from the Old Testament to APOSTOLIC SUCCESSION in the New Testament. This is why someone cannot Authoritatively pick up a Bible and correctly interpret it nor can there be millions of interpretors to HOLY SCRIPTURE. There can only be one! I can go into detail about that but I have sufficiently answered your great question. If you want to know more you can reach me.

The Bible is valid; assuming errors only shows lack of research. One must understand, for example, the context in which the passage they are studying is in, the historical backround, and an access to the original languages would also be helpful, or at least an interpretation by a Bible commentary of some sort. And, like at least one previous answerer has said, these things go hand in hand. Once you have a sincere relationship with Christ, would you not believe every word He said? God bless!

2 Timothy 3:16
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,

Christ died on the cross for our sins. If you believe that and accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior then you are saved and you are a Christian. No Christian is more or less Christian than anyone else!

As to the Bible, it is the word of God as passed on to man. Some things in the Bible are not "literal" but are parables. I suggest talking to your pastor or someone in your church about why you don't believe that the Bible is true.

God bless!

The Bible teaching us the value of a true relationship with God.
How to live and walk by faith. The relationship with God is what
Christianity is all about. The Bible is like a History book or dictionary. May not be 100% accurate due to various translations but remember that Jesus said, "I am the way John 14:6".
Jesus is "THE LIVING AUTHORITY" thru the Holy Spirit.
2 Timothy 2:15 Study to show thyself approved.
Knowledge is great but WISDOM is understanding the WORD of GOD.

Use all sources in your walk with God.

The most important thing, to begin with, is to have a relationship with Christ, ask him to help you find the truth, you might learn the very things you thought were false, are actually the truth, have faith and trust in him first and foremost.....

Christianity is not just "Believing the bible word for word" it's believing in God , as the father, the creator of the universe and all things in it, and believing that he sent his son Jesus, to die for our sins, ...........

the way society is now, we are all filled with doubt and skepticism, it's hard to distinguish fact from fiction, especially when it comes to religion, but if you ask god to show you, you can learn yourself what is true or not.......

let me recommend you again, to www.christiananswers.net just take a look, perhaps take a look at the "Bible contradictions" section,

you want to believe every word of the bible but you want to do it because you have a sincere relationship with Christ, If you just start remembering scripture and have no reasoning behind it other than to sound smart then you begin to act like a pharisee. Which pharisees are not good, read the gospels (mathew mark luke and john)
