Another scenario is when he told Noah to build an arc so he could kill everyone in the world, he had 300 yrs to call it off but he didn't. That is PREMEDITATED MURDER!

This was a demonstration of Abraham's faith that God could resurrect Isaac (see Hebrews 11:17-19) since God had made promises regarding Isaac. Interestingly, at that point Isaac was 25 years old (according to Jewish tradition recorded by Josephus) so he was not a child and Abraham was 125 years old at the time. Isaac could have overpowered him, but he too knew of God's promise and he had faith as well. It was also a prophetic portrayal of Jesus willingly laying down his life as a sacrifice in the future.

First of all it didn't happen in today's society, in that day the head of the family had complete and total power of his family and if he chose to kill them it was allowable much like the power slave-owners had over their slaves (I am not saying that is right by any means so don't take it that way). Secondly, He asked Abraham to do this in order to test his faith in order to determine if he was worthy of the blessings he was going to bestow. Thirdly, He asked Abraham to sacrifice his son not murder him, which Isaac did not struggle against, and if someone is willing to die you can kill them but you can't murder them. Lastly He did this to show what He himself would require of Himself, and that is the life of His own son in order that man might be saved.

And the Noah thing, I take you are one of those people who thinks that the death penalty is wrong and we should just cage people like Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Jack the Ripper. God destroyed the world in a flood because all the people on the world at the time were deserving of death except Noah and his family. This is called justice, not murder.

lol... So true! This was my favorite bible story as a child my father had read to me. God had done so only to see if Abraham WOULD actually kill the beloved son he had always wanted, JUST to prove his love to the lord. And once god saw this gesture, he told Abraham to stop - He saw all he needed to see from Abraham. It is still twisted that god (the all knowing) should need reassurance from anyone! Besides, god should already HAVE the answer to that question, RIGHT?!

God, Who for His love for His creatures made this beautiful world with all its wonders (scientists of the 21st century have failed to decipher), does not solicit MURDER....

If God asked Abraham to sacrifice his Son, it's because he wanted to test the LOVE of Abraham for God, because even if Abraham had slaughtered His Son (Ishmael or Isaac) it is very much in the Powers of God to recreate him... Even, today, we keep testing things in every sphere of life..

When one does wrong, he need be kept checked, even today therefore millions of prisons around the world are full of prisoners - ask USA! If the people of Noah would not hearken the voice of truth, they need be checked for their wrongdoings as we are being checked by our Governments..

Whether you believe or do not in a Creator, nothing could ever be made of nothing.. so the Creator is there and it is for Him to rule the world and not by you or me...

When Abraham did not complain, neither Noah - why should you complain.. God is all merciful otherwise you wouldn't still be using your fingers to type such messages neither utter a word, but it is because of his MERCY that you are still enjoying all the senses in your body...

God was testing his faith, and that was Old Testament stuff, these days we dont do burnt or killing sacrifices, so that means in "todays society" it would have never been asked to do anyways, God stopped Abraham and replaced Isaac with a ram that was caught in a bush, Because Abraham was obedient to God, God made a covenant to Abraham.

Let's say that before God walked among the humans, and lived with them, He was a VERY jealous God, He was testing Abraham to make sure that God was still first in his life.

Since God has lived among the humans He has become more compassionate, loving, forgiving, and kind.

He wasn't soliciting murder. He was testing Abrahams faith to kill his only son and male heir for which future generations would come from. Yet,Abraham didn't shirk his duty and did as he was told. Where would the twelve tribes of Israel be if Abraham tried to run from God to protect Isaac?

It was a TEST of FAITH and OBEDIENCE.
It was more to establish that blood sacrifice would be required for atonement of sin.
Read books of Lev and Deut about ANIMAL blood sacrifices that came after Abraham's time under Mosiac Law (613 Ordiances)

You can see the parallel between Abraham/Isaac and GOD/JESUS.
In Christian belief Abraham is a model of faith, and his intention to obey God by offering up Isaac is seen as a foreshadowing of God's offering of his son, Jesus.

It was a test to see if Abraham really believed. God did not permit Abraham to kill the boy.

It was a test by God to see if Abraham would be obedient to Him. He was and God prevented Abraham from sacrificing his son, Isaac(Joy) It was a prophetic demonstration to us that He would sacrifice His only begotten Son, Jesus. A perfect picture of love and ultimate sacrifice.
