I think he should visit a prominent Muslim leader and lead a joint prayer for peace.

Well, the Islamic leadership has politicized Islamic teachings that make anything the pope does inaffective. The best approach is to go back to the TEN COMMANDMENTS and preach in simple moral terms which actions are wrong. Deliberately taking someones words out of context is a violation of the commandment not to bear false witness. Then, I would discribe the reaction as being wrong in the eyes of God. The TEN COMMANDMENTS are something that Christians share with the Islamic faith but interpret somewhat differently on certain issues. This is what I believe should be the popes course of action.

the Pope was asked for an apology OR an explanation of his statement. The Pope gave an explanation but it was not accepted. Since the Pope did not make the original statement he cannot apologize for it. In fact, there is no way he can apologize for it. If someone said he has then it's for media coverage and easing of tensions because of his upcoming trips into muslimland. What do you mean by satisfactory gesture???? to whom and for what????

What the holy spirit will guide him to do. I thing we should not apply the same methods used by muslims, we have the new testament yo guide us, forgivness. Ihope the world leaders du not start cruciating,to take the pope's side it would be worsten the situation. There are enough muslim who can think rationally.we have to wait and see. His Holyness will find His way out of this mess.

Let's clarify: the Pope didn't apologize for the speech. He said he was "deeply sorry about the reaction" to his speech. He did NOT say he was sorry for offending and insulting Muslims which he obviously did. What was his purpose in quoting a Byzantine emperor who called the teachings of Mohammed "evil?"

When is the president of Iraq apologizing for his rude and offensive comments towards the nation Israel??
When are they apologizing to America for attacking us??

As for the Pope he did humble himself and apologized, I don't think he should of but I am not the Pope. I found nothing offensive in the true statement he made!!
People take my Lords name in vain on a daily basis but because of the peace and love he has given us we do not bent out of shape and protesting and killing others on the street!!

100+ Muslim civilians died today killed by radical Muslims terrorist that is fact...how come they have not asked them to stop??

Keep his mouth shut and pray like heck that he hasn't turned "politics-as-usual" into the newest "Crusades"----or, was that the intent???

PS--Isn't he supposed to have been a "dear friend" of our recently departed, saintly pope? How could these strange bed-fellows have been friends?
