We're thinking about relocating out of California to a more affordable environment. Any suggestions?

I think Raleigh is a very good place to raise a family.
The public school system in Raleigh is excellent.
The city is generally clean and safe, with a wide range of neighborhoods - housing is much more reasonably priced than in CA. Low unemployment, and a wide range of tech, biotech, management, and education/government jobs.
The city is doing an excellent job revitalizing downtown (I think they may be getting it right this time, too).
Plenty of family activities from museums, state parks, minor league baseball.
You can do a whole lot worse.

I lived close to Raleigh,for me it's still kinda big!and still a little less affordable.
but its decent and clean!
I also have lived in SC close to Myrtle Beach,not that great for me for a family,too expensive and college kiddish lol
I live in a small town in Arkansas now,around 3500 people,it is affordable and fairly decent,but everyone can know your buisness if you tell it to one person lol
I think find some place you can afford and that is low on the crime scale,also check the sex offender registry,that always worries me!
there are around 3 where we live,but we know where they live and have shown our oldest child their pic online on the police sites!
I think if you can afford a place and you are good parent/s then anywher can be good!
just know your surroundings and enjoy!

Not good = great!!!!!
Good basketball teams; superb farmers market; rolling hillsides.
Check out the real estate before you trade. The techoes have raised the prices. A little place like Garney is still cool.
Qualifications: live in WA.

I love all of north carolina wish i could move there myself . It is very pretty and clean . i also love mountains and hiking . Your kids will probably love it there great schools and great sports teams wonderfull universitys as well. cannot say enough good things about north carolina. good luck. California i know what you mean lived in san diego for awhile . Not happy there at all. Good luck to you and your family.
