Amanda, are your clothes your own, or do you share them with your mom? Do you share your car? I notice that you don't pay for your car insurance, who does? Who drives your car and uses the gas in it? Do your parents use your school supplies? Do you cook the meals and keep the rest of the house clean? Do you pay for the groceries or your doctor bills?
I hate to tell you...you aren't even scratching the surface of what you cost your parents. They could just take your pay check and give you an allowance. They haven't and it's for the very reason that "Dr Pepper" gives... they DO want you to learn about the real world. The best lessons in life that we learn are the ones we live. What we learn through living stays with us longer. Real life doesn't have do-overs and real life is full of not-so-fun things that have to be done. Recess got left behind in junior high.
BTW, it sounds as though your parents love you a lot. Also, I think you are doing a good job for them, too. :)
Ready for your next lesson? Okay, here goes... look around... there's always someone who is worse off than you. Hugs, Kiddo, you'll make it!!

Mine too
They think they're teaching you about the real world
Mom used to throw a **** fit about me doing laundry. One day I yelled that I worked 40 hours in a clothing department, I didnt want to have to spend all my free time with her and my laundry.
Plus when I was in high school Id go to school M-F and then have to work sat and sun from 8 am until 6 pm. Think mom was rooting for me to have a nervous breakdown.

Question is did you want the car..if you did it is your responsibility
to pay for it...I payed for my own gas and car at 17..I did choirs around the house...it was trash...mowing the lawn and running the dish washer...sell your car if you want and get something cheap..extra money in your hands and for anything else quit complaining...your parents are trying to teach you on how to be an adult

no they aren't. it is your car, your responsibility.....you don't pay rent so you should be doing some stuff around the house. what kind of clothes do you buy? if you didn't buy brand name stuff, you could cut the hours you are working. and stuff for high school does not cost that much! that would be different if you were in college. for certain reasons, i had to move back in with my mother....i have my own bills, my own car, and i pay her 200 a week, not a month, for rent and to help pay utilites, and i help her around the house. this is what is called LIFE! you are old enough to take care of your responsibilites! grow up and stop being a whiney brat!

They are asking too much from you if you are still in school. My son has a girlfriend and her parents are exactly like yours, excepting her car is paid for. I don't think it's right, especially if your parents are in a position to make these payments for you. I think you should work for the extra stuff you want, but not to an extent that your school work suffers. Hope this helped.

Yeah, that seems like a bit much. But, then again, very soon you'll be doing all of that on your own anyway, so I suppose they're just trying to give you a sense of what th real world is like. Consider it practice, lol.

At 17 it is very likely your choice that you have that car. Sell it and quit your job. Stay a kid a while longer.
