I would lie and tell them that your parrot had larynx cancer and you missed a lot of work caring for them, that's why you didn't meet your quotas. As far as what you learned from it I would say that you now realize the dumb bird could've spoke for himself and you should've been more attentive to work.

Answer that you were unable to meet one of the monthly goals, briefly explain that, and move onto the reason why you put your application in with the perspective employer. Maybe mention that you know you have limitations but are willing to be challenged with a company that strives for the best from their employees. Also, I would definitely say that you learned that your inconsistency may have caused the termination but you would love the opportunity to show your strengths if considered for the new job.
Good luck!

The best thing to do is to discuss it honestly with the interviewer. Explain what the reasons were that you were unable to meet the goals and what they were. Also tell the interviewer that you learned to approach this situation in a different way from this happening (tell them what you would do differently to reach that type of goal now.) Do not gloss it over or lie about it, as they will appreciate the honesty. If you are willing to make changes in order to improve your work, that should be an important factor in them wanting to hire you. Good luck and have a good night.

Be honest, as you were here.
What was the reason you were unable to meet your monthly goal? Was it because of any conflict within the company, changes to goals, or personal problems?
Try to find a way to say what you have done to better yourself or your customer service strategies as a result of this situation. Something like:
"after five successful years, I am disappointed in myself that I was not able to meet my monthly goal, as I have always been successful in the past. I decided to study more on the subject of customer service and feel that now I am more knowledgeable and effective when faced with similar situations"

just tell them you were refused an answer.... when you asked reason for termination you were told you were an "at will employee" and you did not need to have to know a reason...but it is your belief that after 5yrs of successful goals being meet you failed to meet goals one and only one time and you think that was the reason but you are not sure....you were not given the chance to proove it was only a one time deal. That may help.

just say..... after 5 years, I feel I need to have new challenges, that is the reason why I apply for a job with your company..bla bla bla.
I don't see why you have to go into details that you failed to meet target etc. they can find it out for themselves if they wish, but if I were you, I just keep quiet about it.

Just say you cannot handle another rejection and will kill anyone that does not hire you.
