I was recently told that Natures Way Alive is the best multi. I was told that Centrum and other standard store brands contain fillers and don't even absorb into the body and do no good. Anyone have experience with this?

Which is the 'Best' car? Which is the 'Best' golfball? Which is the 'Best' college? These are not easy questions to answer. Generally, when any complex product claims (or someone makes the claim) to be 'the best', it is a good time to put on your 'critical thinking hat'.

There are so many issues involved in this question that even experts may have difficulty in determing the quality of any specific brand of vitamin supplement.

Here are a few 'tests' a good supplement will always meet.

1) The bottle has an expiration date and the bottle is opaque (not see through).

2) The product contains NO sugars, fillers, coloring agents, or preservatives.

3) The product (most of the time) is in capsule form and not tablets (tablets require fillers).

4) The 'B-vitamins' are at levels that substantially exceed the RDA levels.

5) The microminerals are at the RDA levels and Boron and Vanadium are included.

6) The Macrominerals Calcium and Magnesium should be about half the RDA levels or more.

7) Vitamin C should be at least 200 milligrams.

8) Minerals should be in chelated forms (e.g. Magnesium citrate or glycinate and Calcium citrate) and not the cheap and poorly absorbed 'oxide' forms.

9) Vitamin E should be the natural and not the synthetic form. Natural Vitamin E is d-alpha-tocopherol. Synthetic is dl-alpha-tocopherol. Look for that little 'l' ('el') it means the product is a "l"ooser!

10) A quality, complete multi-vitamin/mineral supplement will require at least 6 pills per day to contain all of the necessary nutrients, so any product that comes as one or two pills will not likely have a full dose or complement of nutrients.

11) Quality, as with cars, education, etc. is not cheap. A good supplement will cost about $1 per day - $30 for a month's supply.

12) (Almost forgot) Vitamin D should be as 'cholecalciferol' and NOT 'ergocalciferol' and should be at least 400 IU.

One last 'tip'. The exact form of each nutrient should be listed - for example: Calcium citrate. If the product only lists "calcium", it is hiding something - do not choose it.

I hope this is helpful for you. Best wishes and good luck.

Multivitamin Absorption Rate

Nature's way is in no way the best multi-vitamin. It appears to be a good vitamin but the absorption rate of it's nutrients is still much lower then the patented fructose compounded vitamins sold by another manufacturer.

The Life Extension Foundation makes a tremendous multivitamin called Life Extension Mix. The American Academy of Antiaging Medicine endorses this frequently.

I'm on the best one ever! I tried lots of others but didn't see results, they just wanted for you to trust it was helping.

I just started these "Gifts of Nature" supplements a few months ago and they cured my depression! The thing is there are ton of supplements promising things, but the vitamins don't get absorbed into your body if you are lacking the minerals your body needs to utilize them. The ones I am using are helping me loose weight, clearing my acne and giving me real energy!
